brake upgrades.

im considering pulling the rotors and calipers of my dads 93 accord and modding them onto my car since the accord is so much bigger and the calipers are also much larger i figured it woul be a decent free upgrade! ill look into it as soon as i get some dry weather but i was wondering if anyone has done anything like it? could be a pretty cool DIY upgrade if it works.

Re: brake upgrades.

???

You need the rotors too, different bolt pattern. If you're gonna do it, go 5 bolt legend or prelude.

In the end it isn't a free upgrade.

Re: brake upgrades.

Your 'lude is 4x100. The Accord is 4x114.

And I don't know about the 4th gen Accords (90-93), but the 5th gens (94-97) didn't use a rotor over hub design like our Preludes do, which means the rotor is held to the hub from behind... making your idea impossible.

Like I said though, I dunno if the 4th gen Accord was like that.

Re: brake upgrades.

its not that big of a deal i just thought it would be a cool idea to look into, the only reason i was worried was because if my dads is 4x114 and i am 4x100 then i couldent use his rims witch would be sad because they are bad ass and are a huge upgrade over my stocks with small front tires and huge rear tires. but its all good now because his rims are universal 4 bolt so they have the pattern for both :)

Re: brake upgrades.

It's actually 4x114.3. Which is the same as 4th gen Preludes.

No, no, no...I was pointing out that the Accord is 114.3, not 114. And it's the Accord that is the same as the 4th gen Prelude. 3rd gen is 4x100. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: brake upgrades.

You could always file that .3 out with a router file, LOL!

Drums in the back would be awsome. They really don't get enough good PR, and for the most part have more than enough bite for factory specs. My Suburban has MASSIVE rear drums. 13" and change diameter! It's upkeeping the springs and countermeasures that are the PITA, Lol!

I would so get the new RL hubs for those beautiful brake calipers for a prelude. Those bite!

Eww...I can't see any reason to switch to drums. You might be able to convert to Civic rear brakes if you really want drums. But it would be a definite downgrade. Disc brakes are by far the better system.

Re: brake upgrades.

I know man, disc brakes are a simpler system too honestly. But I would not downgrade to drums.

Re: brake upgrades.

Oh I remember well. My first car (66 Chevelle) had drums all the way around, and no power assist brakes. I called them anti-lock brakes because I couldn't get them to lock up if I stood on the brake pedal with all my weight.
