what is the estimated milage for timing belt changes?

Hi,

I'm new to this site. I ran across you folks when I googled trying to find information on an '89 2.0 Si. I have just purchased one, and was trying to
find out when the timing belt on it should be changed. It's an auto, with 169k
miles. Also, as for the stereo/sound system, does it have a factory amp? As you can read, I am such a noob, but I've ALWAYS liked the Prelude body style of the 80' and early 90's. I was looking for a "4 banger" for gas purposes
just to drive to and from work, but I wanted something sporty, small, and nice, and of course have all the convenient options because I am too lazy
to do things manually...lol. I'm happy to have found a forum such as this...=)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

MizzRobin

I recommend changing your timing belt now. Never trust someone elses word on the last time they changed the belt unless it is well documented.

Timing belt changes on these cars are every 60,000. Safely.

And well come.

For all your aftermarket needs for your third gen lude, ask me how I can help. I am a project manager for the new aftermarket for this car, and I also know where you can get the current performance parts for it as well.

well come? What?

Anyway, yeah dude. All cars have amps. Without an amp, speakers don't make much noise at all. Almost every deck except super high end ones have built in amps... usually ranging from 10-50 watts per channel. It does NOT have a 'seperate' amp.

If you're doing a timing belt change, I would personally change the other belts too.

Thank you for such a quick response! I picked this car up for $800. I was told that the radiator was "clogged" and needed to be replaced. I've never heard of that term, but I'm bringing it into my mechanic that I've been going to for the past 20+ years. So, I thought I'll just get everything else done and out of the way at the sametime. It's pretty clean considering it's age. The body is straight, except for a little ding on the driver's side door right above the molding, some oxidation on the front bumper, but other than that, I was pleased exterior wise. The interior can use a good cleaning, and I'll need to change the glove box out since the latch from the outside to open it broke off. I'll also need some tunes, and that's why I asked about a factory amp, but I found that I posted that question in the wrong forum after looking around a bit more on the site. I was just so happy to find a place to ask questions...lol! I'm an older lady in my late 30's trying to do the younger things... But all in all I'm very, very excited to drive this car! As I have said, I've always liked the look of the 80's and early 90's Preludes

Thanks Again for the quick repsonses...=)

Age is a but a #, you still have a plenty of your youth spirit if you picked up a 3rd gen Honda Prelude. The car is timeless, and the operator of the vehicle is also, "ageless."

Haha! Thank you Prelude13! Yeah, I'm still a youngster at heart. I've got "beat" in the current car that I'm driving right now, and I have a '78 Pontiac Trans-Am Gold Edition, Smokey & The Bandit Style, that I've had since the mid 80's that I hardly ever drive because it looks really nice, and people like to run into me when I take that car out...=( I'm such a "tom-boy" LOL. But yeah, it's great being able to be here. I appreciate it very much. Like
I said, I'm so excited, and I can't wait to drive the "lude" as you call it. My older brother can't wait either! He's like a lil kid too when it comes to cars...lol

Thanks!

MizzRobin

BTW...You guys are too cute with your comments...=)
