89 Prelude Exhaust- Compatibility?

One thing after the next, but slowly fixing it up. I need a new exhaust for my 89 Honda Prelude SI. Just looking to keep it stock for now. I have explored a few options, but I am curious as to if an exhaust from an 89 Honda Accord would fit? I will be keeping my Catalytic Converter, I just need to replace the piping from the Corrugated pipe back to the muffler as they are starting to rust and leak. It seems as though an exhaust for an 89 Honda Accord is a good bit cheaper than one for an 89 Honda Prelude. Are they compatible?

As always, all information is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 89 Prelude Exhaust- Compatibility?

You can go to summitracing.com and order a Pacesetter 2.25" bolt up exhaust.

Its an ok setup, but it is the cheapest bolt up option we have.

Other than that, I recommend finding an exhaust shop that can mandrel bend and have them make you a custom setup, if not then just get a regular crush bent exhaust.

We do not have anymore companies that support us other than what I posted above.

Re: 89 Prelude Exhaust- Compatibility?

My local shop quoted me $200 for parts and labor of everything 2.5", including muffler and cat.

Re: 89 Prelude Exhaust- Compatibility?

Def. go mandrel bend, it's not the same as crush bent, or stretch bent.

I also HIGHLY recommend a resonator after the cat, I've had great success with Cherry Bomb, the longest one you can find!

Finally, from my experience with exhausts on Honda's, namely Vtec motors, most common domestic mufflers people put on V8's and such, like Flowmaster, sounds like ass! My currently recommendation is a Apexi N1, or Noir muffler (but seriously shop around).

All this will cost you more, but friends don't let friends sound like rice!

Flowmaster is a good brand if you choose the right muffler for the car. It is pretty quiet until you get up past 4,000 RPMs, and it flows well.

First off, thanks to everyone for responding. I think I'll be going with the Pacesetter bolt on option, seems the cheapest, and most of the shops around here are quoting me at crazy prices just to fix the stock exhaust.

My next question, I'm going to replace the headers along with the exhaust, both Pacesetter. I need a Catalytic Converter to fit on the exhaust, mostly to just pass inspection. Could I use any Pacesetter bolt on Cat.? Or what?

Just for reference, the part numbers are:
Pacesetter:
Headers- 70-1241
Exhaust- 88-1347

I second this, other wise you'll have an annoying raspy ass ricecar sound

You can go on ebay to find a bolt on OEM Cat replacement.

Re: 89 Prelude Exhaust- Compatibility?

I tried that and twice they sent me one that was 2 long and the wrong bolt pattern. It did however, fit my friends 98 gsr( it's weird typing gsr without the x... Damn I love my bike lol) so I gave it to him

Re: 89 Prelude Exhaust- Compatibility?

I second the pasesetter, its what i have on mine and i have a cherry bomb welded in behind the cat and a no name fart can muff tip and i like it cause it has that low deep tone unlike the civics around town.
