new plugs and wires... tuning her up

Hay all. First thing now. Tune up....

Im gonna replace the plugs, wires, and rotor thing lol.

Now for the plugs. Anything you all suggest over another? Autozone offers two performance plugs at about 8 bucks each. One is ngk and the other I forgot but the insulation is lime green. Don't worry it's not a duralast plug. I can get back to you on the brand in a little if you don't know Which one I'm talking about. And as far as the wires. I didn't see anything for performance Unless you know of one.

Re: new plugs and wires... tuning her up

NGK v-power. $2 per plug is hard to beat. And they work well. No reason to pay for expensive plugs since they're so easy to replace.

I ordered a set of Nology wires a couple years ago, but I forget where I got them from.

Yes, original crinkle finish. I came across it in a junkyard on a 90 Si that only had 91k miles and couldn't pass it up. Thanks for noticing.

Iridium plugs might work well in an h22 but are a waste of money in these engines.

Re: new plugs and wires... tuning her up

And any recommendations on wiresets too guys? Autozone doesn't carry much for my car so I have to order things online. I was looking at some ngks quickly but I wasn't sure if I was looking at the right ones. The one site also said the coil wires did not come with the set? So I'm a little befuddled but then again my research was brief. Maybe you guys could recommended a site or part no#. I'm also having some difficulty finding a new distributor cap and rotor :/

Naw, it's a short ram. The filter sits pretty much where the stock filter housing was located. Too much work involved to install a true CAI. And I bought my Nology wires from a seller on ebay. You might look there for wires of your choice.

Re: new plugs and wires... tuning her up

Not to get off track, but isn't the stock intake a CAI? Why would an aftermarket CAI be any better?

to me stock intake is a SRI.

CAI would go down into the fender/bumper and take cold air from there instead of warm stuff in the engine bay.

Yes, the stock intake is technically a CAI. But it's restrictive compared to what an aftermarket CAI or even a ram intake would be. It's designed more for quietness than it is for performance.

The stock intake pulls in air from behind the right headlight, which is outside of the engine bay. Any intake that pulls in air from outside the engine bay is a cold air intake.

Most cold air intakes do locate the filter out of the engine bay, either inside the fender or behind the bumper cover. But some are located in the engine bay and still marketed as a CAI.

oh yeah, was too busy thinking about the first part of the intake which is from the IM to the filter inside the chamber. if you were to remove everything except those you get a free SRI lol

Well in that case you'd be right. If you just use the section from the throttle body to the filter you would indeed have a short ram intake.

My first dyno session will most likely test various intake systems to officially see what's what.

Hijacked how? Weren't you the one who asked about my intake? Any luck on finding wires?

It would be awesome to see some dyno numbers Kenpachi. Be sure to make a new thread posting your numbers. Like JoshuaaXD, I'm not expecting to see much of a difference to be honest.

I'm just saying. This thread almost went Spiderman when there's another thread about that going on

No, my conquest for wires, distributor cap and rotor isn't going so well. Still don't know what I'm looking at. But the more I look I guess the better idea I get.

LOL! We'll see what's what so ppl don't throw way their $$ on an aftermarket system. But if it's 'restrictive', then there are gains to be expected ;)

I guess I should qualify that last statement. Right or wrong, I was making an assumption that you have stock exhaust. If you are running with a stock exhaust I'm not expecting to see much gain. If you are running a higher flow exhaust you should see some gains with a CAI, and possibly a SRI.

True, true. If I decide to work with the B21A1, and get headers and exhaust, I'll have to plan another dyno session then.

Re: new plugs and wires... tuning her up

I did, I've read it several times, even before joining the forum, but the data presented wasn't totally clear, and he left a lot of holes in his tuning method. I'm not saying I want to recreate a everything that he did, I just like numbers....on graphs, clad proof of what is what, something I don't see a lot of on this forum...just claims.

I guess, staying true to the nature of my profession, I'm approaching this very scientifically and presenting the data as clear as I can, considering as much as I can...in time :)
