Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Well i'm not new to ludes, ive owned a 4th gen SR-V for over a year now, but just came across a sweet opportunity to trade my auto 94 accord with 140xxx miles (225xxx km's) for a dark blue 5spd 91 prelude SR (Si in the states) with 166xxx miles (268xxx kms).

It looks like its all stock, with stock 3g prelude alloys and no QP rust which is a miracle considering where I live lol so pretty mint considering the cars mileage and the climate here.

so excited to soon own both a 3rd gen and 4th gen! already bookmarked the stickied resource thread and about to go through it. not sure about any plans for it but i'll see once ive combed through the car...I have a spare h22a head, and a full rebuilt h22a block kicking around that has the balance shaft deleted and quite the oil pump. so I guess my dream would be to throw that in there one day... I'll post pics when I get the car!

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Congratulations, first thing of course pictures.

Second thing: getting in good with me, Luzer, JoshuaXD, and living in 3rd gen forums, LOL!

Third thing: staying addicted to your new Prelude. Its just a great car from a time people were building dream cars. Hope you love it.

Ahahahahahaha! Beat you to a thread, Finally! You really have a 2010SS??? Congrats man, never noticed until now. Go through my Albums and see Mona sometime!!! Lespaul59 got a GTO too! What's going on here!!! LOL!

Back on topic: Outside color, interior color, CHECK FOR THE CLOCK COVER!!! Don't H22 unless you really wanna. It's easier with your first prelude rather all the fabwork.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Yup, you sure did.

I really do have a 2010 SS. Cyber Grey Metallic with silver rally stripes. I used to have a 2004 6 speed GTO, yellowjacket. I changed my avatar pic so you can see the SS. I don't want to jack WegZzz's thread with pics of my Camaro. How do I look at your album, lol?

Can't wait to see pics of your lude WegZzz!! And as long as your b21a1 runs okay, you should drive it for a while before you decide if you want to do the H swap.

Yes my blue 2004 GTO with blue leather seats, 6-speed does haul ass but it's for the week ends. It' still fun as hell driving my 91 Lude every day. Whipping around corners is what I like most. Anyone else wanna explain the goods about the 3rd gen Ludes?

I could get a mod to edit in to the title: "(also, pictures of luzer's 2010 SS)" lol

and yep just drive it around and go from there.

yeah but an H in a 3rd gen is too awesome. maybe if it had 4ws then for sure id do it but I'll probably end up enjoying the car stock as a dd but make it look pretty, clean up engine bay and look into suspension since most of the hype with 3g's is the handling. can't wait to drive it.

either 4g for good ole mmmmmmBBAAAHHH or the 3g for good gas mileage, better handling and a body that is in better shape...if the 3g had an H I wouldn't have much use for the 4g lol...but I dont want to let that car go.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

You will get hooked, I promise... You will want to feel more power of out of your 3rd gen after you have done the suspension upgrades and the looks. It never stops, and its a common addiction, just you wait, I have seen many like you convert.

I have been around more cars than my 3rd gen, but nothing else makes want them as much as a 3rd gen. Styling, handling, overall feel, then you upgrade to the Ksports that I had made for them and drop an H22/23 or F series and forget about... You will not go back.

Now lets keep this in context, I am talking about the average cars, not Lamborginii's or cars of the like. We all have our super car dreams.

That's awesome. I loved my yellojacket 04 GTO. The SS handles better then my Goat did (bone stock suspensions on both) but it can't hold a candle to the lude in the twisties. An h22 may be in the future for me.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

So lucky! I almost had myself a 3rd gen, some guy here was selling it for $600, went to contact him and someone had already snatched it up. The thing was pristine.

Congrats though.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

not sure what to do at this point.

The car is pretty nice. The rust is pretty minimal/just beginning and there was a dent the size of a soccer ball on the passenger side rear quarter. The 3G drove/felt like it was brand new and the inspection done 2-3 weeks ago says it needs next to nothing.

I'm waiting on the guy to get back at me with his answer and then give my answer...but I last got an inspection 1.5 years ago and he wants an up to date one. Got referred to a place that'll do it for $80. I'll get them to split the cost of that.

What do you guys think? seeing the dent was a turn off for me but I find myself still wanting to go through with it.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

You're gonna give up your current lude for a third? I love the 3rd gen prelude, but it's old and even basic hookups for a B20/B21 is scarce. You must be OBD1 90-91 to do a h22 swap. Obd0 is another 500 for the conversion harness, last I checked anyway.

Handling will be serious without 4WS, the car delivers. With it is another creature, tweak it with the right setting, RAILS 24/7. The one thing you should see is if local parts yards have 2-3 chassis to pick at. All the links I had for 3rd gens are dead, or those gateway search engines. Sad really.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Got it home in one piece. ive already identified...

-Oil leaks to keep an eye out for. There is oil stain around/near oil fill cap. gonna clean up engine bay and see if it comes back.
-some blue-ish smoke when I accelerate, only occassionally--randomly even. doesn't matter what RPM.
-clock cover broken (surprise, lol)
-shakey side view mirrors, mainly passenger (surprise...)
-drivers window doesn't go up right all the way (surprise surprise)
-hear some ticking in engine bay, but no correlation with RPMs

Aside from that, the trans is good and suspension is TIGHT so all that other crap doesn't matter and I know there are DIY fixes for them. And if it is burning oil (hopefully not too much) I dont have trouble with topping it up each week as I do my 4th gen.

But my main concern right now is it used nearly a 1/4 tank of gas to drive 30 kms (14 miles?)...I did drive it home a bit hard to test it, but thats still weak to use that much gas lol...so I made a suspect list: it has winter tires, the front ones look/feel like they have <25psi...Next thing on the suspect list is...old gas, its spent most of its time sitting since 2010.

brb maintenance
pics when I get home from work...

Just keep on replacing the basic stuff: i.e. plugs, cap/rotor, O2 sensor, etc. I also look forward to some pics!

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Here is what I try to do when I buy a 3rd gen. Tune-up including distributor cap and rotor. New wires might also be needed. Most 3rd gens I see in junkyards still have the original plug wires. You should also change the oil and then do a valve lash adjustment. Replace the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube o-rings after the valve lash adjustment. Replace the fuel filter because it probably needs it. Then adjust idle speed and ignition timing.

Those should bring your fuel mileage back up to where it should be. At that point I would probably flush the brake and power steering fluids. Flush the coolant. Flush the clutch fluid (if it's a manual). Change the transmission fluid. You'll also want to check your brakes to make sure they are in good working order. I like to be thorough.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

threw on some Acura Integra SE wheels, the wheels look like this:

but mine are scuffed up and I removed the center caps. thinking of painting them white, or plasti dipping them black. what do you think?

plasti dipped (black) wheels and keep the murdered out look, or put on stock tail lights and have white wheels like my 4th gen?

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

I see there is a black 4th gen with white wheels in one of the pics. You can either go with the same theme, which doesn't look bad IMO, or stay murdered out. I personally think gold or bronze wheels looks good on black cars, but the sky is the limit, almost any color would look good....it's black!

BTW...that 'SR' badge is sick!

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Murdered out. Strange expression.

You have steelies! I had 15" steelies painted Dark grey to give the poor mans look, then wrapped them in Toyo TS-1 tires no one suspected a thing, LOL! I has civic EL rims for when I was gonna restore my prelude, I got those falken azenis comp dot tires. Good times.
Stay steelie!!!

Nothing wrong with that, give it the sleeper look. Just remember steelies are heavy, and might not ventilate as well as some alloys.

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Thats why I got those integra SE alloys. got em cheap anyway and plan to paint them. the rubber is mismatched garbage but will have to do for now.

ive run steelies for the last 2-3 years and im sick of them and im sure my neighbours are also sick of them. my accord had winters on steels/all seasons on steels. winter? time to switch to steelies. summer? oh, time to switch to other steelies. -_-

Re: Soon to own a 3rd gen...

Kenpachi I live in a pot hole ridden wonderland called NYC. I've got dented rims on other cars and if a steelie can take the punishment, I love them. they took more than the fare share, so i love them. Like the integra alloys too. BBS 4x100 are good too if you can find them.

WEGZZz Steelie king!!!! your crown should be a steelie!!!
