will they fit/look good?

whatsup guys, im 18 years old and i've had my 89 prelude 2.0 si for about a month now (it's my first car). Overall it's in fairly good condition and im about to get little things done to it like paint and tires/rims. My current wheels and tires are 195 60 R14 and i found a guy selling 17" Black Montegi racing mr7's and they're 215 45 R17s with two bolt patterns 4x100 & 4x114...
Soo will these fit on my prelude that has stock suspension? Or do i need to go smaller?

Re: will they fit/look good?

They should fit fine, but they are big. About an inch and a half taller than stock. The speedo will be reading almost 4 mph slow, so you'll want to keep that in mind. But the black rims on a red 3rd gen looks great IMHO (that's what I have)

Re: will they fit/look good?

I have a set of those wheels in 18" and they fit on my 88 S. Haven't tried them on my 88 Si yet.

I got mine pretty much for free. Well, traded some 13's for them. They will throw off the speedo reading (as any tire with larger diameter). Also, add 10-20% to your mileage counter since installed, and 10-20% to your fuel economy.

After doing the math, you get better MPG's with bigger wheels, but the tripmeter will register less. Makin sense to ya?

Re: will they fit/look good?

Larger wheels on an older car, esp. an wedgie, 80's design like the 3rd gen, looks kinda ricey and cheap, (not to mention 17's are much heavier, unless you don't care about performance).

Rock some old school 15's or 16's like this:

or this:

or this:

or perhaps keep it JDM yo!

Re: will they fit/look good?

i had something similar as my first rims, 17" Konig somethings... Ended up being to big even when dropped and hated them. Switched over to 16"s and much happier

Re: will they fit/look good?

My 88 Si would tear through some stock 14's in a one swift shift to 3rd gear. Whoever said 17's are too big have a distorted view of necessity. I've got 17's with nice Toyo's and they still spin in 2nd. If I had anything smaller on my 88 Si, I'd be wasting money on rubber.

It seems like the larger wheels with good lo-pro tires last longer.

Re: will they fit/look good?

Does your lude have a 5 lug swap?? Or is that just the hubcaps... Cos judging by the pictures your lude has five lug nuts and those rims have four.... Idk either i'm the only person who noticed this or i'm retarted.. Most likely the second one unfortunately haha

As for the rims I'd say you should go 16s or even 15s

Re: will they fit/look good?

Like I was saying, I've got the exact same wheels in 18 inch, and they are not all that heavy. They are home to my 88 S lude, which is pretty slow compared to the Si. Since putting the 18's on the car has felt much smoother on the road.

When buying used, just make sure they are balanced before hand.

The Red one looks good but the tires a bit to small makes the wheels look like a 14 inch wheel like some kind of lower rider.

I personally dont like those rims man. They are played out and theyre everywhere. They were the CHEAPEST set of rims you could buy at Sears for the longest. I suggest you save up and go with something else.

Re: will they fit/look good?

Right now money IS a primary factor. Im about to go to college next month so im in the process of quitting my job and getting the necessities for my apartment, soo cheap is the goal. Im considering lowering it when i get the rims but i dont want a cheap set of springs on the ride soo i guess ill look pretty retarded for awhile but oo well

Re: will they fit/look good?

So many conflicting opinions here. I personally wouldn't go with anything bigger than 15 inch on a 3rd gen, but that's my opinion. The important thing here is what do you want? Who cares what anyone else thinks? The only thing that really matters is if you like it or not. You're the one who has to look at it and drive it every day. If that's what you want then do it.

Well if money IS the issue and you like the rims then do it. You asked for opinions and you got 'em lol
