EGR valve removal

I've been searching around, has anyone tried to remove the EGR valve? I'm sure most, if not all 3rd gens come equipped with those annoying emission systems. Wondered if anyone has removed it, if it should be done at all.

Thanks!

Re: EGR valve removal

The EGR valve is disabled when engine RPMs reach about 3200 RPMs. There is not a chance in the world that removing the EGR will increase the peak horse power or torque numbers.

I removed it when I rebuilt the B20a5 engine in my 88 Si. After cleaning the carbon out of it I put it right back on before dropping the engine into the bay.

I have just about every NA mod done to my B20a5 engine, including bored 80-over and full P&P work, yet I still have the EGR system. Removing it yields no benefits, and I'd rather stay legal and pass emissions without a care.

Not really concerned about the horsepower or performance numbers at all, more or less just getting it out of the way and cleaning up the engine bay a bit. Later B series engine, including my B18C in my Civic, do not come with a EGR valve.

But if it's not a big deal to leave it in, no worries, it seems to be better off with it, though I do not live in an area where they test for emissions....yet.

Re: EGR valve removal

Simple to remove. Take the distributor out then remove the two nuts. Gotta make a block off plate next with a gasket.Yes the distributor out of the way makes it easy to get to it.

You will get a cel if you unplug the sensor. Just keep it plugged in and tuck it away somewhere to keep the cel away.

Re: EGR valve removal

Don't forget about that annoying tube going to the exhaust manifold. Good luck getting that off. I couldn't.It's gonna be loud and smokey under the hood if you don't plug that off.

Re: EGR valve removal

The guy that stsrted this thread is long gone ludeless. I own the car he speaks of with no intention of removing the egr system any time soon.

But now I know how

Re: EGR valve removal

Wish I had a JDM exhaust manifold but just have the intake. I'll locate one soon since I'm coming up on 25 years soon where I won't need emissions.
