Icon5 Mild rebuild buildup

Hows it going guys? I've got a 89 Si 5spd with 325k all original. I bought the car a few months ago as I used to have an 85 and wanted another prelude. I commute 100 miles a day and this thing still gets 30mpg 24 yrs later. The body and interior and in near mint shape, haven't personally seen one in better shape but its getting up there in miles.

I bought a spare b20a5 couple weekends ago. I was told the motor ran fine, 250k with 165psi +/- on all four cyl. Now being that I love this car my first plan was to tear it down and do a complete forged build up and run 300-400hp, but the more research I do the more I realize thats probably not something I want to take on right now. I have a modified cherokee thats my current toy/project, dont have time for another wallet destroyer. So that leads me to my next plan, I'd like to do a complete rebuild of the spare B20 i have on the stand, but give it a few extra ponies. I'm really not up on all the honda tricks for getting extra power and really dont know how well these respond to bolt ons.

I'm basically aiming for a $1k rebuild buildup. What all can I do to this motor? It would be nice to have a 2500lb car with atleast 175-190hp but I'm unsure whether that could be done for what i'm looking to spend. Any advice or tricks would be appreciated, thanks guys!

Re: Mild rebuild buildup

Almost everyone is gonna tell you that one thousand dollars will never be enough for 190hp. The engine itself has about 130-140 hp. Might have to save a little more money. Sorry.

Re: Mild rebuild buildup

Nah you can do it if you have good connections and use used parts and good machining and custom

Re: Mild rebuild buildup

trying to push 200 hp on a 20 year old motor with 250k is bad idea unless you rebuild everything. ie rods, rings, pistons, valves, gaskets etc
