4ws and high speed cornering

i must say it is amazing. easy as pie to paark, parallel parking is a thing of the past.
but, the 4ws steering at high speeds.. i havent noticed much difference.
there are two corners by my house one is about a 95 degree turn and the other is probaly closer to an 80 dgree turn. now those are almost hair pins, and i can only take them at aroudn 30mph with out encountering understeer. it might be my inexperience at drving, but i can tkae my moms civic(03' sohc ulev stock) and take the corner almost easier at the same speed.though i did get side ways in the civic taking that same corner, but i was brakign through the turn...stupid.. but it has antilock brakes some i dont see how itd slide.. i have been driving the civic longer so maybe im more acustom to its drving habits.
does anyone have experience racing 3rd gens that could maybe tell me if my 4ws isnt working right or if im a complete dumbass and cant drive haha? or if maybe im drving fine and thats normal for a stock 20 year old suspension?
any critisism?

well the 4ws takes a little while to get used to but trust me it helps, in long highspeed cornering it doesnt really make it not roll as much or any thing but it keeps the ass end from sliding out so you dont lose control of the car, i've taken 90 degree corners at well over 40 in mine with out a problem

It isn't made for high speed cornering, it's made for high speed lane changes. The idea is at high speeds you don't turn the wheel much, so it the car just slides into the next lane, instead of turning into it. At lower speeds, when you turn the wheel more, then it corners like crazy.

it gives the car more high speed stability in long turns, they didnt do it just to change lanes with, in long turns with the back wheels turned the same direction as the front it makes the car track into the turn instead of to the outside of the turn so the back end doesn't try to slide around. .

there is a lot of "getting use to" on the 4WS system...just wait till you cross a bridge when it's raining or snowing...it feels funny...but none the less this is a really fun car to drive during all seasons...

there is al long ole turn on an express way by my house, its way sharper than any turn on the freeway and narrower, and ive pass people while taking the turn and noticed how much control i have through it whether im doing 60 or 100 with out any effort. and when i took my civic through there, i had to slow down to 60 cause it felt liek i was gonna flip or slide.

oh and i took the corner(90 degrees or less) again today. oh man now im begging to notice it alot more.

and yes my house is located next to alot of nice race equivalent turns haha ill be talking about them often, i live off one of the most ghetto and raced street in my city.

4ws is awesome.
When i drove ILLQUEENS's car for the first time, i got confused as hell as the rear was kicking out of nowhere! but that feeling of total control and the ability to whip around virtually anything made it that more special.

HIGH SPEED + 4WS?
here is my story:

I dont have 4ws. My friends old 89 did.
Now, you have to understand, his aim was to make the car the ultimate handling machine ever built for the tarmacs of NYC. He lowered the car on Koni struts with Ground control coilovers. He dropped the car 3 inches. He had on some super grippy, Toyo tires on 15 inch steelies. One night we were cruising on the Cross Island Expressway(Northern Queens highway) and we're doing a good 70-80MPH, just chillin. Out of nowhere comes this super charged Grand Prix. He flys by us so my friend decides to go after him.
Obviously, we cant catch him, but now comes a HUGE .5 mile turn. All we see is the Grand Prix drop way back and you see us fly ahead at nearly 90MPH, SIDEWAYS. You dont hear any tires screaching, you just hear my heartbeat at an alarming 50Beats Per Minute!!! i nearly threw up because we were SIDEWAYS @ 90MPH!! <---true story i will never forget.

His car is now crushed at the junkyard. Motor failure. RIP SIDESWIPE SI 1989 2.0Si.
I almost took his 4ws system, but it was all too late.

oh, and Preludes, all generations are notorious for understeering.

it's one of those things that cant be videotaped or recorded. It's like your magical first kiss.

Chris(my friend), him and I go back a few years when we both were newbies to the Prelude. Him coming from the Nissan camp and myself coming from the Civic/Integra crew had no idea the car can handle such a feat.

I was too scared(im being honest) and i just peered over at the speedometer...it was hovering from 90-100MPH...one glance and i had to look elsewhere or else i would've thrown up lol!

I love my 4WS!!! It is a dream in handling! I loved when I had my 17's on there with it... soooo grippy! I can't wait to lower it since my suspension is basically done now!

Really? I would think going from 14s to 17s would be such a huge change in sidewall height that it would ride like crap. I'm looking to upgrade to 15s or 16s eventually.

i have 17s on mine and personally i think it holds the road better than it did when it had the 14s, granted it was a lot quicker with the stockies on it, but the ride quality isn't bad with 17s as long as your not hitting every pot hole in sight

Did you ever have 14s with actual performance tires though? I just think taht increasing the stock rim diameter by 3" must be pretty huge, in terms of ride quality. Going about 1" bigger than stock is generally the best compromise, and 2" bigger than stock if you want more 'bling facta'... but... yeah. Never really considered them for my hondas. For the subie, yeah. :)

I've had ppl come up to me when its parked R&R style and tell me ' hey, your car's f****d or somethin' is wrong with your rear wheels. Every n00b is blown away once they see them work.

oh, and Preludes, all generations are notorious for understeering.
Thanks for the Honoring my ride Man. The trick to Making the 4ws work for you is in your wrist. the lower the prelude is, the better the camber lean is. Like Prelude13 said, im originally from the nissan camp. My 2000 b15 sentra came with a progressive multi-link rear suspension so that it would have zero understeer in moderate driving conditions.
The 3rd gen Prelude 4ws Was 1000 times more effecctive for manuevering. Test driving it for the first time sold me in a minute. ON the high way I felt the potential for the agressive driving. I had many a sleepless nights finding parts for the suspension... when on that fateful night I had just lowered it to 1 inch from the ground. Bri couldn't contain himself... Seriously. Then the Pontiac wanted to "eat rice", and for the strip of curvy road we were on... He was served. 93mph and the tires didn't even chirp.

Take good care of your baby. and keep an engine lying around just in case.
