I think it might be because the wheel lugnuts are mismatched, causing uneven torque distribution, but then I read that this problem was common even without. I just bought this car as a project 2 days ago, are there any other prelude problems that cause vibration other than acceleration in case homogenizing the lugnuts doesn't do the trick?

have the tires been balanced? Took mine in yeasterday for balance and was told two of my rims (original) are bent causing wheel hop. Ordered new rims and will see if that helps. Iv'e found out over the years start with the cheapest solution first and go from there. Often like in this case the diagnosis will come from this initial inspection.

Re: 1989 2.0 SI vibrating under acceleration.

It would be helpful if you could provide more information.

1. At what speed does the vibration start? Does it eventually go away?
2. Is it worse if you accelerate quickly versus slowly?
3. Are they stock Honda rims or are they aftermarket?

Have you checked your axles to see if the boots are all intact? If the CV joints are worn you can sometimes feel a vibration.

If they are Honda rims, make sure that all of the lug nuts are the correct ball seat style and not the normal bevel seat. Mismatched lug nuts won't cause vibration unless you have mixed ball seat and bevel seat lug nuts

You might also want to check your motor mounts. Bad motor mounts can cause vibration on acceleration as well.

Thanks for all the help, and yes, it does get worse under heavier acceleration, and it eases up if I ease off the gas, it's at any speed, seems to be RPM dependent. And I believe there are no rims on it, it's just the base wheel.
