cant get started, starter not engaging

i have a 91 prelude 2.0 si, auto, injected. had to replace battery. now when i turn the key to start i dont get anything. its like i have it in drive when i try. ive tested the blk/wht wire to cylonoid and it get power when key is turned, still the starter will not engage. i had it tested and it passed. so i bought a new main relay for it, still nothing. could it be the nuetral safety switch?

Yes, it very well could be that. You should be able to jump that switch to test it. I've done this on other makes/models of cars, but I've never worked on a 3rd gen w/automatic transmission. I suggest you look in the online service manual. There may also be a troubleshooting chart for this problem. Here's a link in case you don't have it...

Re: cant get started, starter not engaging

I had to add a push button switch from Autozone cause I couldn't figure out the problem either. Just find 12 volts at the fuse block and run it too the switch then to the solenoid wire on the starter. This is not a fix it's just what I did. Remember, there shouldn't be a check engine light on when you start it. Only for the first few seconds after turning the key but it should go out.
