Speaker Install How To anywhere?

I just checked my prelude, and I'm not sure how to get the speakers out. On my 89 accord, I simply remove the speaker covers, replace the speakers, and reinstall the covers. This car looks not quite as easy. Do I have to remove the whole door panel? And what about the rears? Any help or pics would be appreciated.

Yah, for the front speakers, you need to remove the door panels.
It's in the manaul.

*tip. be sure to be gentle when removing the door panel, there are pins all along the side and top of the panel that easily jump out and disappear if you aren't too careful.

the rear speakers are cake. 3 screws, unplug and you're gravy.

No no, for the deck. I'd like to avoid hacking it up if possible.

circuit city carries "smart harnesses" U buy the one for your car, and then the one for alpine. It will cost you about $35. It is cheaper to splice 'em. either way, you will get a solid connection. If you plan on removing your radio for maintence/upgrades frequently, you may want to start with a smart harness just to keep it cleaner.

Well, the deck I bought didn't come with a harness, so I can't just splice it. I needed to buy a harness anyway, and I remember some guy on ebay used to sell Honda to Alpine adaptors. Just wondering where he went.

Also, it's an older deck, and circuit city no longer sells Alpine products, and Best Buy only sells newer 'black connector' style Alpine units, so neither have anything. I ended up finding the harnesses at some obscure install shop.... only to find my headunit is totally dead. Great. Just freakin' great.

PS: What do you mean by just unscrewing the rear speakers???? They are screwed into the rear package tray from the top, as I can only see the BOTTOM of the screws from inside the trunk. From inside the car, the speaker grills have no visible screws, and I'm not sure how to get at them. So what screws are you talking about?

^^AH NOW YOU MAKE SENSE.

First, you need to know the model of your Alpine deck.
Second, you need to go to eaby and find the Alpine harness for your year head unit model. I had the same problem, i bought a used Alpine head unit without the harness. I went to ebay and bought the one that works, is your unit a CDA-XXX? Ebay has them for like $12.00
(ONLY AN EXAMPLE) --- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ALPIN...spagenameZWDVW

...as for the rear, remove the top, plastic speak covers, you'll see the speakers in plain site. There has to be 3 screws holding the actual, physical speaker in place.

So the rear speaker covers just snap in? Huh. Weird.

Anyway, like I said, the deck is dead, so I don't need a harness for it anymore. I found harnesses on ebay though, for REALLY cheap:

Wow. Weird. The speaker covers DO just snap off, but unfortunately they snap ONTO the factory speakers. The surrounds were almost gone on mine, and I threw in a set of $30 craigslist 4 way pioneer 6.5s, they bolted right in. Actually this was the EASIEST speaker install I've EVER done, EVER. Prior to this, I've always had to 'slot' the holes in the speaker a little to get things to line up. These worked perfect. Anyway, the sound is now pretty freaking awesome in back. Looking for something else to toss in the front, along with a new deck. This clarion cassette deck is the worst....ugh... I like my factory tape deck in my accord better.

Which wires are negative and postive? I have a Brown and an Orange (maybe) wire. And I have no idea how to get those cords long enough to get to my new speaker system box. Any ideas?

And I would have no idea how to get new wire through the car without cutting holes through the frame.

The wider spade connector that came of the factory speaker was +. The slightly slimmer is-.
If the original cables connectors are missing try the Honda Workshop Manual wiring diagram or use a multimeter to buzz the wires to the Head unit or amp.

Maybe you could extend the wires by soldering some cable to the existing wire. You could use some shrink sleaving to make a neat job.
