Car repair issues

My 1991 needs some repair. I'm noticing an exhaust smell inside the vehicle and the ALB light stays on. It has been on for over a year. What can be causing this?
Also anyone have to replace the heater knob a hundred times. It keeps breaking in the same spot!!

Re: Car repair issues

You probably have an exhaust leak. You're gonna have to check that one out yourself or take it to an exhaust shop.

I don't have ALB so I can't help with that one. Other than to say to make sure that the brake fluid level is up on both the brake reservoir and the ALB brake reservoir.

Yes, the heater knob is a common problem. I've gone through several over the years. I finally decided to reinforce mine by wrapping some thread around it and sealing it with epoxy. That was almost 4 years ago and it's still holding strong.

Re: Car repair issues

My exhaust smell came from the pipe that comes out of the exhaust manifold and goes to the EGR valve. It still leaks to this day.If you can smell it.... Then there is a leak somewhere.

Re: Car repair issues

The most likely cause for an anti-lock brake fault is a bad sensor, but you'd have to pull the fault code to be sure.

I'm getting a smell in my 89 too, plus issues with the egr. There's no vacuum going to the egr. All other vacuum lines are fine, just the egr line isn't getting anything. I originally thought the smell was related to an egr fault because the engine was stuttering at idle, like an exhaust leak or clog causing incorrect backpressure, but now I'm thinking they're not related.

Is your car having any other symptoms, or is it just the smell?

Re: Car repair issues

If you put vacuum to the egr and the engine dies then the egr is good and the holes in the intake are good. I'm still having a problem of no vacuum going to the egr. I've been through 3 computers and 2 map sensors. New O2 sensors and a new CAT didn't help either.Had to retard the distributor all the way just to pass emissions. Too much NO x.
