It's the same amount of work as swapping an h22 would be. Sean did this swap and said it was well worth it.

Care to elaborate as to why not?

An h23 is a hell of a lot cheaper than an h22. Sure it's less hp than an h22. But it could be a good temporary solution if someone needs to chose between rebuilding his b20/b21 and a swap right now, but doesn't have the budget for an h22. Then later down the road if he saved up and bought an h22 it would be a simple swap. Or maybe convert his h23 to v-tec.

I think it would be worth doing. Not to mention that it would also be a good learning experience.

Re: So im thinkin...H23?

luzer thats exactly my mindset... yea i wont have the cool lookin red valve cover, around 200 horses or even a black one with 180 or so, the h23 still puts out more than the b21 i have, and most likely has more aftermarket support. plus i like the blue valve cover, it matches the rest of my all blue lude. but somehow on jdmenginedepot the h23 i saw said vtec on the calve cover, whats the deal with that i heard h23s arent vtec???

Re: So im thinkin...H23?

blue paint is a lot cheaper lol
but in order to put the vtec h23 in your car you would need way more than just the motor like tranny mounts axles wiring ecu etc... I think thats the point nick was trying to make.

I guess since I've never driven in a b20/b21, I never experienced how balls-slow they are, not realizing how much of an improvement an H23 is

Lol, I guess that might explain your answer then. They were decent for what they were when they came out. But compared to newer cars they are really slow. Any improvement is welcome. You're welcome to drive mine if you ever find yourself in Eastern Washington state.

I think what twokexlv6coupe is not understanding is that, the B20/21 in our chassis is much lower power than an H23a1 or the JDM version H23A which both came around 160hp/163tq.

Compare that to 135hp/130tq or the B21: 140hp/135tq.

That is a difference of 25hp/33lbs tq.

That is either a supercharger upgrade or small turbo upgrade in NA form.

I can tell you that makes a whole hell of a lot of difference.

Now what the OP was asking about was the BlueTop H23aVtec that came stock in the Euro Accords.

That motor is 197hp/163tq.

In the 88-91 chassis, that will basically spank the 4th and 5th gens.

Every person I take for a ride in my non-vtec H23a, alwasy freak out how much of a difference the power is.

Not too mention the aftermarket market support for all the H/F series motors.

Something that the B20/21 lack in multitudes.

I have tried to push more aftermarket support for out stock motor, but no one wants to invest, so its a losing battle.

Just get rid of the B20/21 motor and move on to something that will put a smile on your face every day you drive the lude.

I can promise you will not regret it.

And to add to what Luzer stated, by swapping in the non-vtec H23 you will be ready for the H22 when the time comes, because all the work has been done, and all that needs to happen is swapping the motors out.

Here is some motivation for the OP.

This is my new chassis after my accident last February:

This is my old chassis:

That is the non-vtec H23a JDM version in both chassis. Its the same motor, I crashed my yellow lude last February and got a 90Si 4WS chassis and swapped all parts out.

I didn't see this question. You, you'll need to use the manual transmission with this swap. I don't think anyone has successfully used the auto tranny with this swap in the 3rd gen chassis.

If you're anywhere near the city, look for NYPOC (New York Prelude Owners Club), and Bustr; he's the mechanic (out on LI) who does basically all their cars, from basic suspension work to built motors and engine swaps.

Re: So im thinkin...H23?

To the OP.
Swap out the b20/21 for the h23a1. If you go with the h23a bluetop; you'll be putting in more work than should be needed. You'll have to convert it from obd2.

To 1funryd.
I'm pretty sure the euro accords came with the redtop h22. The bluetop h23 came in the japan SiR accord 97-01.

Re: So im thinkin...H23?

I got a 99 prelude base with the h23a

Definitely worth the money, only spent $1700 on it &

my buddy put it in for me

Nothing wrong with thinking out the box, even if the difference isn't much
