New Clutch, finally!

So, basically I've been driving my car on a worn out oem clutch for the year I've had it. Just couple weeks ago I bought an F1 Racing Stage 3 6 puck clutch and a stock flywheel for 115 bucks from rev_rage. I got the stuff last week and had it installed. "The entire job took six hours." says my mechanic, I'm so happy I had him change it instead of myself. He only did it for $170!

The stuff looked great, I was a little wary about buying a used clutch, but it was basically new.

After a few days of waiting to get the car back I finally get the green light to come pick it up and the minute I get in it's nostalgia. I've been stressed out and missing my prelude for days and finally I'm back in it. I press the clutch pedal and holy **** that thing is heavy as hell. When I start driving, I'm caught off guard, because the damn car actually drove off the line instead of crawl.

This clutch grabs like none other, I've played on some back roads with it and even was able to do a light launch for the first time ever in this car. I'm in love! I'll do a long term review of this clutch after I put some miles on it.

I'm going to see if I can get my now spare flywheel lightened and balanced.

The old clutch was destroyed!

Notice that the springs have disintegrated and the friction plate was worn and burnt to hell, no wonder the thing slipped like there was no tomorrow.

Re: New Clutch, finally!

lol I didn't need a mechanic to tell me the clutch was messed up, I didn't want to change the clutch myself, because well 3rd gens are a pain in the ass to work on.

Re: New Clutch, finally!

Nah, 3rd gens are easy to work on. $170 is a great price for the amount of work involved. Why was it so cheap? I don't know the guy (obviously), but are you sure you can trust that he did it right? No hard launches until that clutch has a chance to break in.

And for God's sake, put the milk away before it spoils

Re: New Clutch, finally!

I can trust the guy, hes been a family mechanic since I was a kid, hes done plenty of clutches for the family.

I'm trying my best not to launch it. haha It's tempting, just a few more weeks of driving and I'll be just fine.

I drank that damn milk!

Good deal all around! Time for a nice 500 mile road trip up the coast. I'd say take a nice windy road!
