Re: Clutch issue

Oh my bad, the clutch just doesn't line up with the teeth and the alignment tool says acura on it I tried all ways to try to get it on but it wont hook up. Is there a difference on a stock 89 prelude vs. 89 prelude 2.0Si 4ws clutches?

Re: Clutch issue

There is no difference, you may have been sent a clutch for a 90-91.

This talk about clutches makes me want my clutch. Damn you USPS!

ya the clutch disk is pretty simple to get in there unless you have the 90 91 clutch

Re: Clutch issue

It's critical to know which transmission you have when buying the clutch kit. Even though they didn't come with them, I've found several 88/89 ludes in junkyards that have had the D2A4 transmission (90/91) swapped into them, and vice-versa.

88/89 fuel injected 3rd gens mostly came with D2J3 or D2J5. If you have a D2A4 you'll want to get the clutch kit for a 90/91 prelude. Knowing what you have is the best way to ensure you get the right parts.

I've read a few threads in another forum where members have mentioned a d2k4 on their carbie ludes. Is your car fuel injected or carb'd? In the US, the most common transmission codes for fuel injected are d2j3, d2j5, and d2a4. I don't know what the trans code for the carb'd version is. I also know other transmission codes were used in other markets, but I don't know anything about them.

One thing you can do is order both clutch kits. When you get it apart you'll be able to tell which one you need to use. Then just return the unused kit.

Lol, really? Thanks for that gem.

Actually I didn't see where he mentioned it was an Si. A couple of the threads I read mentioned that they had the d2k4 tranny on their carbie ludes. That's why I asked.

Re: Clutch issue

Sorry man, everything I've found has conflicting information. I can't find any reliable information about them. I suspect it's not the original transmission, and it's possibly from a carb'd lude. You didn't say where you are located.

Re: Clutch issue

Well guys I've been calling all over the place about this transmission, and a lot of companies don't know or never herd of this d2k4. I did call synchrotech and the guy mentioned it was a very old model transmission most likely a Japanese tranz but he had no idea what make or model it came out of. So now I'm stuck called a few other Japanese spots but they don't have a clue. Someone mentioned my location, Los Angeles CA Heeeeeeelp

Re: Clutch issue

It's a 3rd gen tranny, so it will only use one of two clutch kits. 3rd gen transmissions won't work in any other Honda models or generations of Prelude. No need to get frustrated. Just buy an 88/89 clutch kit and a 90/91 clutch kit. Use which ever kit fits your transmission and return the one you don't use. Done.

Then post up with which kit you used so that nobody else with this transmission needs to go through this.

Re: Clutch issue

actually time out brotha, before you go ordering anything. Take your old clutch disk to autozone and say you want to see both prelude transmission clutch disks. they should have them in stock. match em up, figure out what model, leave and go order online again haha

Re: Clutch issue

^^ That'll work too since it sounds like you have yours torn down already. As long as someone near you stocks them. I don't have that luxury where I live. My local parts store doesn't stock any 3rd gen parts.
