Venting....

Okay, I just need to vent a little bit. It seems like everytime I fix one issue with this car another one pops up. I replaced the heater control valve a few days ago and now I have heat! (and more importantly defrosters..at least the windshield. Rear grid doesnt work ATM) But yesterday after I drove it home from work I noticed that the temp was starting to spike and the RPMs were fluctuating oddly. Pull the car over to discover not a small dripping leak, but it PISSING. So I got it home as quickly as I could and fortunately did not overheat it. This morning I started tearing into it to find the problem and There are so many coolant lines I didnt know where to begin. So I tore off the air intake and all of its tubing, wires and the whole distributor and the whole intake. Still cant find the leak. It looks like its leaking on top of the tranny and running down in that little channel to the bottom. Im going to attempt round 2 tomorrow. It seems as if this car has fought me kicking and screaming the whole time Ive been restoring it. From the heater core to the master cylinder and those rotor screws. Im not blaming the car. Its a great little car, but I would love to have "words" with the jagoff that had it before me. Im sorry for ranting but this car has me pulling my hair out more so than when I did body/roof/dash harness swaps and a PCM swap on my Trep. Hopefully I can get it looking almost as nice as my other soon enough and running as nice.

I sure hope youre right. Its a fun car when it runs and really grew on me, which I didnt expect. I know what the mod bug feels like and it feels like Im starting to get the itch with the Lude. I told my friends that I might need to find a 3rd car now...but it has to be something I despise so it doesnt grow on me. But at the moment my feelings have cooled for the little bugger. Im not writing it off, but I dont have alot of love for it right now. Kinda like when I was doing my 1" rear sway bar swap on my Trep a year ago. The body clips that held the bracket to the body rusted and wouldnt let go of the bolts. It took me two days to do something that normally takes 15 minutes. I HATED that car then. lol.

Re: Venting....

If you have oil on top of the tranny it can the the dstributer seal or the vetc selenoid seal or the valve cover seal. Yea I know how you feel. My 4th genhad an electrical problem and I couldn`t figure it out to save my life I even had a mechanic check it. I sold the lude so I never found out what it had and I bought a 5th gen stick h22a. It was in 5/10 condition and boy did the retards before me do shor tcuts but whatever I`ve been doing maintance and DOING IT RIGHT. No short cuts:) Atleast I know I`m taking care of her

Re: Venting....

Well it won again today. Cant seem to get the lower heater core hose over the fitting because the tranny is in the way. Gonna call it quits for today while I still have patience, hahaha. Tomorrow is another day.

Don't listen to this kind of advice. Keep the faith!!! It will get better. Just go through the normal wear items like hoses, belts, axles, bushings, shocks...etc. I have mine to the point that it's as reliable as any car out there. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country. It just takes time and patience, a good manual, and of course some money, lol.

The lude is one resistant bitch until you beat that ass one good time. Then she's as submissive as they come

Yeah. I just never expected it to fight me as hard. Ive rebuilt 2 Buick 3.8's, ripped into my buddies 4.6 GT Mustang, pretty much molested every nut and bolt on my Intrepid upgrading it from a base model but Ive never had this kind of trouble, lol. Its fine, the more it resists, the more tenacious I get. If worse comes to worse, I'll just slap an H22 in her, I think Ive seen a few 3Gs with it done.

What do you expect out of a 20+ year old car. Its gonna happen, just push through and replace everything and she will thank you for it later.

And when you get tired of the B20a5/B21a1 then come and talk to me about the H22/23 swap.

From your remark you obviously have not been to pp.com where all the aftermarket support has been documented.
