Much needed help!!!!

Well guys I'm just plain confused right now. The car had a hunting idle, so after diagnosis and finding that the TPS was shot we replaced it, and replaced the heater core for other reasons. Put everything back together yesterday and started the car, IMMEDIATLEY car jumped to 3,500RPM. Checked cable and everything, codes then set off the light and it ended up being the EACV. Well tested it and its fine, so I took apart the upper intake and cleaned everything on it, started the car sail to high RPM but no light. Now the numskull that had the car before me replaced the coolant lines that went around the throttle body I think they may have messed their order up. Anywhere I can get a diagram of correct placement? And another question is the idle for these cars monitored by the VSS (vehicle speed sensor)? If cruising at any speed and you put the car in neutral the RPM is a steady 3,000. Now if you stop and sit at a sign or a light the RPM drops down to 1,000. Just a thought and its better to ask and be sure then to ASSUME.

Re: Much needed help!!!!

Car should start up at 1500 rpm's and after it's warmed up, the idle air control valve should bring it to about 770 rpm's. Might need to check that out with another loaner iacv just to be sure. 3500 RPM'S SOUNDS LIKE A VACUUM LEAK SOMEWHERE. My intake manifold gasket wasn't tight enough and it idled at 5000 rpm's.

Re: Much needed help!!!!

^^ Agreed, probably a vacuum leak causing the high idle. Make sure you got all your vacuum lines connected up right from when you pulled the intake and messed with the tps.

Re: Much needed help!!!!

pull the intake filter off and cap off the end of the intake with your hand if the engine dies when you cap it off then your vacuum is good. If it revs up then you have a vac leak and you can probably track it down if you listen really closely.
Good Luck.
