it never gets any better does it...

SO. first my water pump blows. big whoop.

NEXT my alignment gets so effed up its unsafe to drive and i have to replace a 2 month old tire.

so i have the alignment fixed, and for the first 10 minutes the car drives and rides beautifully... like a cadillac only better.

then, i go around a turn, and alas, my wheels start squealing again! HOORAY!!

so i immediately take it back to the alignment shop, and sure enough, the alignment is WAY out of wack again!!

turns out, my front subframe is nearly completely separated (cracked) where it drops down to connect to the drivers side lower control arm.

WHOOPDEY FRIGGEDY DO!

anyone know where to order one of these? my mechanic said theres a website i could order one from.

Re: it never gets any better does it...

I'm becoming really skeptical about whether or not you really are having these problems or if your twelve and don't know of anything else to do, but live out an alternate reality on the internet.

If your really having these problems I would scrap the car, I say you have a lemon. Do yourself a favor and part it out. The reason I feel that your not real is because you haven't posted up any photos EVER. Good luck.

Re: it never gets any better does it...

here it is, sorry about the crappy quality but it was taken at night upon request.

and sorry i dont have all the time in the world between my work and personal life to take pics of everything as its happening when im trying to figure out how im gonna get to work for the next week or more. im just not accustomed to forums, id rather make mile long posts to explain as best detail then snap a pic i guess.

and for future reference im 20 years old, and i actually have better of a life than to just sit here and make up **** to try and get sympathy over the internet....

basically thats the break, picture the right side thats broken off going down to the lower control arm on the drivers side. im imagining if that crack travels the rest of the way up the subframe, the only thing left supporting my hub and wheel assembly is my upper control arm and shock tower.... might not be to pretty if that happens while im driving....

That's a pretty nasty injury your lude has gotten. I would try a scrap yard first.

Scrap yard would be the cheapest place to go to, so long you do the work yourself. I'm in awe, I don't understand how this can happen.

Seems like a combination of age and abuse. Either someone drove this car like they stole it or hit something.

all of ours went out of business, but we do however have a used parts store that gets his parts from a u-pull-it in portland, i almost forgot about it in my pissed off/distressed mood this whole last week of problems has put me in....

my friend said last time he was there there was like 6 3rd gen preludes or more... (poor cars)

maybe things are easier to obtain than i thought... its just money thats difficult right now.

and i believe my car has always had this injury, when i got it it had looked like it nailed a curb pretty well, even the guy at the alignment shop said so cause the caster adjusters were bashed back way farther than usual... anyways im guessing that started the crack, then 6000 miles of stress from driving over the terrible roads that my town consists of over the past 3 months only made the crack slowly grow to what it is now.

anyways, rant over.

Get another lude. My 3rd gen isn't reliable, but it won't ever let me down like yours. Your car is just flawed. Part out this one or something. I'm sure you have a good motor, tranny, wheels, body parts, and whatever.

Re: it never gets any better does it...

That's what I figured. Maybe welding it back together could be a temporary fix? If you weld the support back together, then weld in braces on either side, it should hold for a good time.

Re: it never gets any better does it...

I would borrow a feeler guage from someone and get the size of that metal. I would assume its either 16 or 18 gauge. I don't trust that to be welded in it's state. I would figure a way to pull the crack together, then tack it up, weld, skip grinding. Braces are a must at least bolt them on. Make sure whoever is welding gets 100% penetration.

im told it would be better to fix it... my friend had the front subframe done for 250 parts and 180 labor.... which isnt too bad, this car has all new brakes, just got a timing belt and water pump done, doesnt burn oil and gets affordable mileage.

im imagining this is the end of the bad streak if i fix this, maybe 400 more isnt too bad of an investment to make everything solid. im only like 1200 deep into it, which isnt bad now that i think of it cause the jeep i traded for this died 3 days later and now it wont even start and no one can figure out why...

things seem better when i look at it from a calm perspective.

Part of me did. LOL I do that sometimes actually. I've gotten pretty good at filling up gaps from it! Wire is getting expensive though, I can't play as much as I used to, that's why I bought a Prelude.

Re: it never gets any better does it...

Find someone parting out a lude and rip out most of the front end. It will probably be your best bet. Should be fairly cheap.

LOL I'm fairly confident that I won't have any catastrophic failures. I do my best to keep the car in good running condition, but in relation to your post. My car makes me have long hair and a tan yes.

If your 3rd gen isn't reliable, then by definition it will let you down. That's what unreliable means.

Why would you tell him to part out his car without ever having seen it? Maybe you can give up on something that easily, but if all of us did that the junk yards would be full of 3rd gens and we would all be driving something else. 20+ year old cars will have problems. Chances are very good that the next one he finds will have problems too. That's just the way it is.

This forum exists, in part, to help people who have a problem with their lude, not to tell people to just give up, part it out, and find another one.

I just feel that he has a lemon. I might be right, or just throwing things out of proportion.

It's kind of hard to call a 20 year old car a lemon. It looks to me like that lude has been abused and not well maintained. There's more oil on the underside of that car than the crankcase holds, lol.

LOL I guess it might be worth saving the lude, I mean I saved my from getting tossed. I say it's unreliable mainly because of it's faults that kept popping up when I bought it, one coolant leak, after another. I've fixed those problems and on occasion it makes me a little concerned. I haven't been driving it in it's current good mechanical condition long enough to call it reliable.

Re: it never gets any better does it...

Sure it's worth saving, as long as the body is not rusted out or damaged from an accident. I saved mine from someone who was going to take it to the crusher and have replaced just about every part on it. About the only things that are original are the dash, hood, passenger door, windows, crossmembers, and the transmission. Oh, and the 4ws system.

I guess my point is that it's worth fixing just about anything as long as you're willing to invest the time and money into it.
