Dodged a gnarly bullet the other day....

so 3 days ago i had just bought a brand new xbox 360, and literally right as i got home from my prized purchase, my water pump takes a fat 2 gallon piss on my driveway...

guess im lucky it didnt take my timing belt with it....car ran fine when i turned it off, and i was able to start it just enough to use my power brakes to stop myself and the truck that was towing me...

ive heard that most of the time a dead water pump will slay the belt as it goes, thus destroying the motors top end...

phew...

I drove my car 500 miles in a week with a failed waterpump. When I finally went to do the job. My timing belt was torn halfway through.

I don't see how a failing or failed water-pump can do this. Something is not right here. The water-pump is bolted onto the side of the block, and the fins are rotating inside the block's water jacket. How does a water-pump fail and tear through a timing belt? I guess it could seize and not rotate at all due to an obstruction, in which case your timing belt will break and your car will immediately turn off, but this is very unlikely.

"fat 2 gallon piss" LMFAO!

That's the best way I've ever heard someone describe a failed water pump!

I didn't say it was the cause of the timing belt going. What I was getting at is if I went through and changed my water pump like I should have I would have seen that my timing belt was torn and could have been less at risk of destroying my head.
