ewwwwwww that blue with them tails looks so ugly imho lol. The p.s belt removed? or broke an yo ass couldn't fix it. At least the a/c works, well kinda, i don't think battery warranties are transferable but i may be wrong. when i worked at auto zone they weren't. if it were me i'd make sure it started well, make sure it stopped well, shifted well, and didn't squeak to bad. and give em 1500 bucks lol btw, look under the hood and at the firewall and tell me if its still blue, ive never seen a lude that color, its kinda cool

Re: Might get an 89!

The asking price is high, but it sounds like the car is in pretty good condition. Not a fan of the color, and I don't think that color was an option from the factory. Look in the engine bay and see what color it is.

IMO, the biggest things to look for are rust and chassis damage. Look around the rear wheel wells, around the fuel filler door, around the windows and sunroof, and also in the tail light area for signs of rust. Look closely under the car and inside the trunk for any signs of collision repair.

The e-brake issue may be a seized caliper and not a cable, as that's a common problem on any car that's more than 20 years old.

As far as the tail lights go, I'm not a fan of smoking them. It's illegal in most states, and diminishes the amount of light that is visible. But they are easy to change out if you don't like them. And if you do...then you don't have to go through the trouble of smoking them.

Depending on the condition after looking at it, assuming no rust, I would probably offer them 1400 and negotiate from there.

Smoke? It depends on the color of the smoke, blue and white should be a red flag, smoke anywhere should be a red flag, I'm confident you know what exhaust fumes should look like. I would take a look at the oil and ask for recent maintenance. Find out when was the last time the timing belt was changed.

Re: Might get an 89!

timing belt was changed within the last 20,000 miles. The oil was black. There was bad rust in the usual spots. the shifter was broken, the paint job sucked ass, and the interior was semi clean and smelled like cigarettes.
As for the B20 A5 engine, the serpintine belts squealed, and the oil dripped pretty hardcore. the guy said that it uses a quart every 3,000 miles. the rear bumper lost the clips that hold the sides flush with the body because it had been love tapped. it didn't drive well either, and the throttle felt stiff, but slow to return to position. I put it in neutral to coast to a stop sign and the engine remained at the rpm's it was at before I pushed in the clutch. the speedo didn't work, and the underbody was rusted pretty bad, according to a mechanic's inspection.
Sooooo...
I passed!

LOL Well keep looking for a 3rd gen! They are amazing to drive, try finding one that isn't neglected. Mine was neglected, I saved it and now it's just abused!

You need to figure out what you want to drive. If you're happy with a ranger instead of one of the best handling cars ever built, then you're not worthy of a 3rd gen Prelude.

Seriously, if you want to buy a 3rd gen in good condition, you'll need to get out of the rust belt. Go to California or Arizona and buy a good rust-free lude.

Re: Might get an 89!

Well since im still in high school thats not very Plausible at the moment. Itd be alot easier to just swap in the 4L v6 in place of my 2.3L. Then my ranger will he faster than a prelude lol.

Re: Might get an 89!

Well, since you're still in high school, I'll let you in on a little secret...there are a lot of cars that are faster than a 3rd gen. But good luck with that ranger in the twisties, which is way more fun than straight line speed. And I'm not convinced that your ranger will be that fast even with a v6.

Have fun with your ranger young man.

Re: Might get an 89!

Ive got a fairly good idea of how fast it will be. My friend has an extended cab v6 that beat out my previous truck, an 04 f250 reg cab with the 5.4 L v8. So my reg cab ranger should be faster than my neighbors because it weighs less. But i appreciate the help this is a cool forum!
