Help with a CEL

I have a light that comes on I would say only when the car is warm.

It wont stay on when the key is turned however, its only on when the car is running.

If left at idle it wont come on but once I pick up speed and start moving it will come on and stay on unless I turn the car off.

Ive tried to jump the connector in the bay but with the light only being on when the car is I cant seem to get the CEL to blink.

Im kinda of baffled, I have no clue whats going on as the car still runs perfectly fine. NO idle issues, overheating, accelerating problems, nothing at all. I simple dont understand what the problem is/or how to find out.

Any advice?

I could post a vid if it would help

Car:

88 Si 4ws.

Motor:

Jdm b20a with about 90k

Tranny:

Stock with about 215k'ish??

I know to check the light on the Ecu...Is that while the cars on? Or off...

Also, Do I need to jump the relay in the bay? For the light on the Ecu to come on? or if the cel on the dash is on will the light automatically be blinking?

Re: Help with a CEL

Get the code pulled at advanced auto or auto zone if you can't get it with the paperclip or can't get the instructions.

Re: Help with a CEL

They can't pull the codes. Just use a paperclip to jump your diagnostics terminal and research whatever code flashes. It should be in your manual.

Pull the diagnostic plug

Jump it with a paper clip

Turn the car on to ignition

It should flash the codes

Long flash means the first digit

Short flash means the second

I could never get it to flash codes on ignition, but mine always did when I fired it up.

Good luck.

So it will flash when the car is started?

My only problem is it only come on once and a while and then it wont come back on imidiatly when the car is turned off then back on, Like the ECU doesn't save the error.

Re: Help with a CEL

^^^yessir, when i swapped my tranny, i didn't bolt down the vss- top of the tranny speedo cable connects to it, and it was loose causing me to have a cel and teh speedo to pulsate everywhere. Look at the top of the transmission and see if you can move it around at all.

Re: Help with a CEL

I could Imagine that the speedo cable would be loose due to age? But I will check it out once my car cools down, Just got home.

Ill let you guys know if this fixes the problem

On a side note: I noticed that the CEL only comes on when the speed of the car is greater than Id say, 30 ish. Or at least through second gear.

Once again this leads me to beleive that "itsdatoneguy" to be right.

Will update in an hour or so
