1989 Prelude Engine Problems

I have an odd problem with my '89 Prelude. Actually, I should say, its not mine, its my girlfriends. I believe its the 1.6L engine. Awhile back, she was driving it and suddenly lost power. She let it sit for about 10 minutes, started it back up, and made it to where she was going just before it did it again. She let the car sit for a couple months, and now when I put a fresh battery in it, try to start it up, it'll kick and want to start but just for a second, then shut right down. I reset the key, and try again, and get the same thing. Any ideas where to start looking? I have a Haynes book with error codes and such that I'm going to run, but any advice would be great. Thanks!

Its injected. I'm not too familiar with her car. So, I'm not exactly sure which engine she has, sorry. It does however look identicle to your car. If that helps at all.

it probally has a B20A5 in it, i would start off my checking the fuel system, stuff like make sure the fuel pump is opperating correctly, and check the fuel filter to make sure that it's not dirty up...

Check spark, fuel and compression.Take all the plugs out hook the leads to the plugs and drape over valve cover. Have your honey crank the motor, all plugs should spark. Be sure plugs are firmly on vale cover for grounding. A compression test will tell the story if it jumped time. Screw tester into each hole and crank three complete revalutions. Hold the throttle wide open during thes test. All your #'s should be within about 20 psi of each other. A fuel pressure test is the best but with out the right adapters it can be tough. You might take the line off at the filter, put the hose in a can and have your sweet heart turn the key in the on position. Fuel? Try cranking?
Hope this helps, Dan
