Ac clutch

His it going, I haven't been on here in a long time do to my new toy the cbr. Anyways I took my lude half way across the country yesterday (top of Ohio to lil rock Arkansas 22 year old car ftw!) and normally I couldn't care less about ac and havent used it since I got it 5 years ago, but since it's 115 down here and I don't want to make a 13 hour drive in that weather again ima try and fix it. I stopped at a parts store and retrofitted my line for the r 134 and charged it. Lil colder but still to hot to have the windows up. WhAt happens is I can feel power being drained for a split second when I have the ac on but then goes back to normal. I can't tell if it's the compressor the clutch or the line itself. Any insigthh? Sorry I'm on my ipod

Re: Ac clutch

How's your blower motor? It should be pushing ice cold air out, more than before. Other thing: does the compressor drain power when turned on (lights dim at night)? Sounds dumb, but when it turns on while idling, it'll drain the battery. Had a garbage champion battery come with the car, ac on while idling in park, turned my prelude off for 2 minutes, got the "just die" fast clicks. DEAD! Thought it was the alternator, swapped to 90amp cb7, had the same problem again!

Looked carefully at the battery: 6 years old and under rated by 200 cca! Just not enough for accessories! I definitely would not cross "Parasitic Loss" off your list. Some ac compressors even lower rpm in idle! 100- off 600 rpm is definitely noticeable and about to stall your car. Visually check the compressor to see what's it doing, post videos if it looks like it's slipping or spinning too slow.

Pics of the CBR or GTFO!

Re: Ac clutch

it drains energy when the compressor is running, i have a voltmeter that normally runs at 14v after the accord alternator swap and when the ac is running it drops to 11-12v.

heres the cibber, she went street fighter and i need to find a cage for it

Re: Ac clutch

Very nice, I am chicken. Ducati 939 monster or CBR f4i or RR but I know nothing else about bikes. Some thing to love and ride, not to tune. Those get a lot of praise.

Not an ac specialist, but did the mechanic check the dryer? I don't even know if preludes come with one. Keeps the moisture in check, and would definitely keep the air warm if old.

When was the last time you changed the compressor?

Re: Ac clutch

Lol mechanic? I just pulled up to orileys bought a can and a retro fit kit, pulled the old needle, illegally sprayed freOn all over the place, filled it with the new r 134 and drove off. I haven't taken a lOok at the ac compressor it's just to hot to even go outside down here lol. But when I shot all that freon into the air/ underside of my hood, brown oil looking stuff came flying out.
