1989 Prelude 2.0 Si 4WS gone =(

So I've been lurking around the forums for quite a bit. So this Prelude was given to me as a present from my uncle. It was actually hard for them to let go of the car but they said having 2 cars + other stuff to pay is a bit too much so they decided to give it to me. I've had the car for only 10 months. I don't drive it in the winter, just because I don't like rust. Like everyone here that has a 3rd gen prelude, we all know its a special car and no other car drives like it. Not even the newer preludes. I think the 3rd gen is the best one. Ill go straight to how I lost my car. So, i wanted to make a left turn on a side street. There were no traffic lights, nor center lanes. So me and my girlfriend were just waiting for the cars going the other direction to pass until its clear for us to make a left turn. I looked at my rear view mirror, and i see this guy speeding like crazy a few meters back. So i told myself, this guy better slow down. Does he not see me not moving? my brake lights? my signal? So as he kept coming closer and closer i saw him try to cut off the people to my right and BAM! Rear ends me and for some reason, it was like nothing happened, he just kept speeding away and i didn't even have a chance to see what car or what his license plate was. I got out of the car and could not believe what I saw. tire popped, rim badly damaged, trunk bent a little bit, right side tail light completely done, and the whole rear quarter panel just smashed. When we were waiting for the tow truck i found a side mirror on the ground. Turns out it's a mercedes benz silver. Sadly, there is no vin number on the mirror. Since all i have is the part number, i went to a few of the mercedez benz dealerships and asked them to help me. If there's any E class that goes there for a driver side side mirror to let the cops and i know. This was last week and right now I'm still looking for the guy who hit me. But its really sad that my car isn't fixable. At least I don't think so. When i checked underneath, the chassis is bent and if you look at the right rear rim, its cambered positive like crazy. Trust me i wanna fix this car, this car is really special to me. But I don't think its possible. I will post pictures just in case you guys have more knowledge about collision stuff. Maybe it is fixable. The estimate repair was 5000 and no matter how special this car is to me, i dont think 5000 would be worth it to fix if it was fixable because i know for sure the car will never drive the same again. But that's my story, just wanted to share. Pray that I find the guy to at least pay for my car since my insurance is being gay. Yea insurance here in Canada is retarded. It was such a painful sight when i saw my lude like that so please, take care of your 3rd gens because these cars are gold.

I actually had lots of plans for this car. From fixing up the minor rusts to motor swaps. Being an apprentice at Honda I'm not really earning much right now so I've been saving up for things to do on this car. But, I guess not. 3rd Gen prelude till I die. Even if I find another 3rd gen, it will never be the same again. But I'd rather have another one that none. =(. I wanna cry

Buy another one with the insurance money you get; when you catch that guy.
But yea, I bet the feeling of losing her blows.

Dang dude. Thats a pretty hard hit. First thing is, There's no way that a mercedes car got away with just knocking off the mirror and doing thatmuch damage to your car. I'd tell em to look for a silver mercedes needing major repairs on the left front side. But I feel your pain there man. I had the same kind of thing happen to me in Atlanta traffic in my Civic(dang I loved that thing) We were in this get-to-60-and-stop kind of traffic, and out of nowhere, after Im stopped, I get jolted pretty severely...and I look, and sure enough, this guy in his passport had just hit me pretty hard....and then ran. It was enough that it totaled it. It didn't look totaled, but apparently had done some major damage to the frame and chassis. They never found him, but I knew God had a plan for it all(as always)...and sure enough, the light in the matter was that I got more than the car was worth for it. I'm sure you'll find a light in the whole matter. Even if you did get that fixed, you would be right in saying that it would never drive the same. You would have all sorts of issues with tires and balancing and such. But I know there's going to be a light at the end of the tunnel for all this..I just do. Keep yourself positive about it...and you'll find another one, and will eventually get over the wreck(as I did.) Godspeed on the search for a new 3rd gen.

unfortunately at 5k that's definitely a loss. but like previously stated, go out and buy yourself another one because from the sound of it you really want to get back in one as soon as possible.
best of luck with the insurance and new lude if you decide to go that route

It's not worth trying to fix it up. That's too expensive, with half of what you would pay for repairs, you could just get another one and fix it up. I know what you mean by special. I feel my lude is special to me; it was passed down from my dad to my bro and onto me. Too bad it's an automatic but it's my daily driver and I'm happy.

Yea that's one of my favorite verses. Especially with my love of cars, I'm constantly looking to Him to see how I can glorify Him with all that I do(especially that I put work into...such as my car). Same to you...glad to see another one.

Re: 1989 Prelude 2.0 Si 4WS gone =(

man it sucks when bad things happen to good preludes. My father has been a bodyman for 35 years and his favorite saying is "anything can be fixed" and the same is true for your lude it just depends how bad you want it fixed. My lude was back halfed after a severe wreck and I've never had any tracking issues with it, but for 5grand you would probably be better off buying a new one for half that price. I would part out what you can and if it's 4ws you might be able to swap that onto a non 4ws. I'm not sure if thats possible but i'd think there would be provisions for 4ws even if it didn't come with it. Plus you might find a new one cheap with a blown engine and swap yours in. what ever you decide keep us posted and good luck too you. Hope you get the guy that did it.

Not another one! :( This is unfortunate but it's good that you and your girlfriend are okay, yes? Cars can be replaced, people can't. Hopefully you can catch/find the culprit and make them pay up. Sad to see that most 3rd gens are dying nowadays due to other drivers being irresponsible.

Oh yeah - that'll buff right out ;)

^^ dude! that's terrible that car was special to him. it was a gift from family. if it was me in that situation. i would keep the car and use it for parts when i find a new one. it would make it allot easier to find another one because now he can find one with no engine.
