89 prelude Need ideals

So next week I'm gonna prep her for paint. But I would like to get some ideals for the body like tail lights should I delete the moldings what? Any ideals or websites I can get parts or even pictures to help me out. Btw the car has 83k orignal miles. Also I'm new to the 3rd gem world. So sorry in advance

Re: 89 prelude Need ideals

Leave the moldings there, don't molest the Prelude with different tail lights, parts are scarce and it lowers your resale value. Parts will come from Honda or the junk yard and 83k? Pics or BS...

Re: 89 prelude Need ideals

I posted pic in an earlier post. I bought an e36 Beamer so I didn't come around to working on the Lude but next week I've decided it was time to start fixing all the rust and sanding all the dents. I will be posting pic when I do start working on it. But I just was trying to get some ideals before I pulled it in the garage

I just looked, don't delete the badges or moldings, its a 3rd Gen Prelude, not a Civic.

Re: 89 prelude Need ideals

^I dont understand shaving moldings and emblems makes it a Civic?

I personally like the clean look without the emblems. But then again i also like the nostalgic Honda emblem and the 2.0Si badge too :P

I'd just really do a respray and cut out any rust(if there is any) and make it look clean.

Good luck!

Those are Accord (94-95) side trim aka side skirts, rear lip and front lip. If you go to a junkyard and find said Accord, you can remove those trim pieces to retrofit your Prelude. It looks good.

Re: 89 prelude Need ideals

Thanks man. Ive just found this website www.Prelude3G.com and it's giving me a bunch of new ideals for the car. I'm 17 and Im working off this car for this older bodyshop owner and he is teaching me the trade as we go and this is gonna be my first project by myself. I recently sanded and prep a Buick for the shop and I'm loving working with bodywork.

Well, if you had looked at the stickied thread in the 3rd gen forum, you would've found that link along with the info on those Accord trim.

Use the "search" function. it'll help ya out

Re: 89 prelude Need ideals

Don't alter the bodywork. The car has amazing lines and is beautiful as it is just freshen everything up. Check out my build thread. Everything is original except the wheels.

Re: 89 prelude Need ideals

Im thinking only doing the accord trim because it looks real clean and then I won't feel like I need to lower it an inch. As for the performance wise I'm kinda screwed seeing how it's a carbed 2.0s auto. With the miles being so low I'm not reallly intrested in doing a swap nor have the money/exsperience. Does anyone know what I cando to get a lil more gettyup?

No clear lenses for our ludes, there is a write-up on how to do it. You will need to custom make them yourself.

And here is a link for what you can do for your carbed lude.

what about the taillights? Do o have to make those or does anyone have them laying around and would like to get rid of them? I'm almost thinking about having someone make them and willing to pay for them.

Re: 89 prelude Need ideals

For taillight, you can get some from a 90-91 lude, but you need the whole 3 piece set, a trunk lid, and rear bumper.

Word cool. Now is it gonna be a pain to get everything to line up? Or it should just snap right in? I might just be better off just putting some tint on the tailights.

Doing the 90-91 Tail light conversion is not going to be bolt up. You will need to get the tail sections, the connectors for the lights, the trunk lid and then you will need to cut, drill, fill in, sand, body work everything to line up and keep from letting water fall in to the cracks.

The 88-89 rear panels do not have the same size hole for the 90-91 lights. Plus you will need to make yourself some weatherproof gaskets to keep the assembly water tight.
