CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

After messing around under the steering wheel replacing the clutch master cylinder, I went to go start it and won't crank over. All the lights work and battery is strong. Push started and it started on the first popping of the clutch. It's gotta have something to do with the neutral safety switch I think. Anyone have this kind of problem? Hate it to be a fuse or something stupid like that.

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

Adjust your clutch pedal. It's probably the damn failsafe that keeps manuals from turning on without the clutch being pressed. I don't know the harness config (my si was auto) but stereo shops bypass it so manual transmission cars can have remote autostart (like my auto).

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

Even if I did adjust it, It still has to be pressed down away from the sensor. Remember, It only senses it when the pedal is up.

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

Does the ignition respond through the turns, lock, acc, on? I had a similar problem, because the harness under the steering column didn't click in perfectly. How could you rule out that sensor? always thought those things were related to the clutch disengaging.

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

If you look at the clutch pedal, It looks like it hits a stop but the pedal has a hole in it to go over a little pin. Kind of confusing. Go look and see. I'm guessing it's a proximity sensor and not a switch.

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

Then I'm no help, I don't have a lude to compare notes, lol. Sounds like a parts yard outing for you, BOO! The only thing I can recommend is going over the harnesses you moved around to remove the cylinder, and look for ground outs and nicks. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

Gonna check the wire going to the solenoid on the starter. If that's got voltage going to it then it's the starter but I doubt it. If it doesn't get voltage then it's the neutral switch.Maybe I'll take the harness off the back of it and try and jump it. Otherwise I need to hook up a starter toggle switch to start the damn thing. And yes I reset the the ecm by pulling the radio fuse and all fuses for that matter.

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

Put my voltmeter on the solenoid and turned the key. No voltage. Gonna replace the clutch pedal switch and hope that's it. Otherwise I'll have to rig a starter toggle switch like they use in nascar. Gonna pull off the 2 wire harness first and jump it with a wire to double check.

Re: CLUTCH PEDAL OOPS

The switch was good then I put my voltmeter on the outer wire and got less than 1 ohm. Good. At least I had a ground. Put the voltmeter in the middle wire and had nothing. Then for the hell of it, Hooked up voltage to the middle wire but it still didn't work. Who knows? So I just hooked up a push button starter switch and routed it to the solenoid on the starter. Now it works perfect. But it's not factory. My guess after all that is that it was probably a bad ignition switch. When you turn the key it might send voltage to the neutral safety switch. Who knows.

WILD RIDE!

Gah, the cost of keeping one of Honda's oldest platforms alive. At least you're S2K status now.
