My heart was crushed today

So after I spent all of last week fixing my EGR valve and stripping out my A/C system flushing it and putting it back in. I got her all put back together yesterday and the A/C was fine. All the parts off of Ebay started to come in, so I installed the Eclipse system first (yeah I know they are old but, but it makes her look so nice), which took all of yesterday from ripping the seat and carpet out to hide the wires and find a place for all the components. Went to bed tired and fulfilled, work up with simple plans this morning drive a hour away pick up my son for the 4th of July weekend and on the way back have some father son time hitting salvage yards and pulling parts for Haley. So with all that done we started to head back home, with plans of cutting the grass and then wash and wax Haley, when I look out my rearview mirror I noticed black smoke coming out the engine. At first I didn't think much, due to the fact I had put in some Seafoam at a gas station. Then I noticed it only came out when I let off the gas when I accelerated it would go away the reverse action of Seafoam. By this time I was on the part of the stripe where there are only miles of trees and woods for 25 miles. So I get to the last county with like ten miles to go before a little mom and pop service station, my oil light started flashing. Which I could not understand why when I first started the A/C and EGR jobs I checked all the fluids while she was on jack stands. I didn’t want to pull over in the middle of nowhere cause I had my son with me. So I cut on the hazard lights and slowly and painfully made it to the garage. When we popped open the nothing but smoke came pouring from under the hood and that’s when my heart fell out of my chest I had to walk away to keep my composure. I pulled out the dip stick and she was bone dry I mean nothing at all. So the mechanic added some oil and asked me to crank it nothing, the started clicked and that’s all. He went to check the plugs her wires were melted thru. Only two of the four were connected just barely. So I call a ride to come pick up me and my son leaving her with complete strangers. Then my son comes up to me puts his hand on my shoulder and say’s Dad she’s gonna be alright you love her way to much and she’s never left you stranded in the years you’ve had her ( Mar 2000). So I come home run to my neighbor’s house ask her if she could watch my son and if I could borrow her truck since hers has a hitch and mine doesn’t. I go to the zone pick up spark plugs wires, then drive around town for four hours to find a car dolly to rent they were all rented out to PCSing military members. So I drive and hour the opposite way to rent one from a random number I found in a phone book. Then make a two hour drive back to Haley the whole time wondering if she is going to be alright. So I get there change out the wires and give her a try she tried to turn over for me twice (better than before) So I closed the hood told her I loved her and she was going to be alright. So I load her up and drive two hours in another direction to a friend who is a professional mechanics house (one of the few people beside me who I have ever touched her under the hood). So I dropped her off with him and he told me to call him in the morning for the diagnosis I have been home for an hour now and my son keeps trying to cheer me up. That and searching Ebay, Craigslist, and Lejuene Yard Sales looking franticly for a new engine.

Man, I know exactly how that feels. I'm putting another engine in mine right now. My story had seafoam in it too! I have only lost 2 engines in my life. 1 right after slick 50, and one right after seafoam. I'm not messing with any more additives!

Re: My heart was crushed today

I doubt adding seafoam to the gas had anything to do with it. When you put it in the gas tank it's basically acting as fuel injector cleaner. I've used it in many cars with no problems. I've never used it in the crankcase though. But the op didn't mention where he added the seafoam. I assumed gas tank.

I'm sorry to hear about that. But you will get her back on the road and everything will be good again.

Re: My heart was crushed today

I'm not knocking seafoam at at. I been using it for 10 plus years, especially in boats that sit around alot and are subject to moisture and corrosion. Sometimes though, I think it works too good. My car had been sitting since 98. I didnt look in the tank... but I could just imagine what the old varnished gas looked like. Seafoam in my tank started disolving all that crap and passing it thru the system. It started running ruff, then backfiring, then I guess it jumped timing cause it locked up. When I took off the valve cover, 4-5 rocker arms were just laying around in there. Im installing a replacement B21 now, but I am still worried about my entire fuel system. Seafoam is very good,...sometimes mabee too good.

Re: My heart was crushed today

Okay I got it started but know it sounds like a diesel engine, I can hear thing knocking under the valve cover. It sounds like a spring loaded diving board. But after talking to my mechanic I found out the problem, it was the seafoam along with the cheap oil I put in the crank case. The seafoam did its job it cleaned the crank case the oil on the other hand just burned off. I'm not knocking seafoam I use the stuff in everthing from my Ninja to my lawn equipment. I got what I paid for a cheap oil that couldn't hold up and know my baby is sitting in my driveway until I find an H22.

Sorry to hear about this bro, but take comfort in knowing that now you will transform your baby into real beast when are ready to make the journey to the H swap.

From there, the sky is the limit.
