Will be missed... :(

So today I got a quote on the damage i done when I hit a deer last saturday doin about 60. I never knew how expensive our pop-up headlights are... The body shop quoted me at $2700 worth of damage... I'm pretty sure the insurance company will consider it a total loss... :(

I need an opinion. If they do consider it totaled, should i just take the money and find something else? Or should i try and keep the car as a salvaged title and try parting it out?

Re: Will be missed... :(

It can't just be headlight damage if the estimate is $2700. Without pics we can't really give you advice on what to do. Please post pics of the damage so we will have a better idea of that you should do. Make sure to take pics with the hood open and closed.

Re: Will be missed... :(

sorry i didn't explain more. its an 89 si. it done hood damage, destroyed the popup headlight assembly. pretty sure it messed up the motorized part of it. bent the radiator supports on that side, messed up my front clip. i'm gonna try and upload pix this weekend when i get some time off work. BUT. Its driveable. Drives just fine goin down the road. Just can't drive it at night without worrying about getting a ticket... So i have to say. It held up well all things considered...

Re: Will be missed... :(

That's kind of what I suspected. More than just the headlight was damaged. In order to repair it properly (which is what a body shop would do), you will need to replace the radiator support, hood, headlight(s), fender(s) bumper cover, bumper support, and any mounting hardware that was damaged. Then they would have to align everything properly, do any necessary body work, then do the paint work. The labor involved would be significant, so that is why the estimate is so high. Body work is expensive.

You should be able to fix all of that yourself for pretty cheap if you have any wrenching skills and can find the parts in junkyards. It's the paint work that you may want to leave to the professionals if you have never done that before.
