coolant leak?

My 89 si started leaking coolant rather profusely the other night. At first I thought it was a heater hose but after further digging it looks like its coming from the top of the block under the intake manifold, does anyone know if there's a line there that could bust or something?

Re: coolant leak?

Yep I had the same problem occur to me after getting my car back on the road after three years of constant deploying and neglecting her, she leaked coolant all over the place. I first thought it was the bottom hose, but after having a mechanic friend of mine check her out he found four other hoses back there that had just dry rotted over time. I hope this helps out some.

Re: coolant leak?

Click on this link Part Detail. It's a link to hondapartsnow.com and will give you a better idea of how many small coolant hoses there are on our engines. Don't forget about the water pipe. It's comes out of the block right behind the water pump, and several of the coolant hoses connect to it. They have been known to rust out, and there is also an o ring where it connects to the block which can start to leak.

You can click on the diagram in that link to see a more detailed diagram.

Re: coolant leak?

Thanks all for the info, sorry it took so long to reply but ive been super busy bustin my a** off with overtime at work lately... freakin flakes that call themselves "hard workers" dont even bother to show up anymore...

anyways ive found and fixed the leak, after about an hour of trying to remove one of my heater hoses from the block (unsuccessful...), we caught a tiny hose that goes down in between to ports on the intake manifold from the top, down under to the block, taking a coolant piss on my driveway... while the car was off.

basically my motors covered in so much oil from previous leaks (fixed by previous owner), that the hose absorbed so much it basically turned to jelly.

so ive replaced it, now the question is, why does it still make the high pressure kinda sound from the motor as if it were still spraying coolant? (same sound the hose was making when it went south) there hasnt been a drop of coolant on my driveway, and my radiator and reservoir are still full every morning, and the motor hasnt been overheating? i didnt put the round air filter housing back on yet (basically running a short ram) but i doubt my intake is THAT loud, even at an idle....

idk, im just tired of worrying, cause i need this car to drive out of town for work....

end of abnormally long post...
