Wheels from other cars

I didn't see a minor questions thread, apologies if I missed it.
I want to buy second-hand tires. There's a nice set for sale near me already mounted on wheels that came off of "a Kia" (she didn't specify which Kia when I asked about the car), P175/65R14 Hankook H725; M+S. From the pictures they appear to be 4x100, but I've heard Honda used a slightly different lug design than other manufacturers, so I might need to replace my lugs and/or lugnuts.

Can I mount Kia wheels on my 88 Prelude?

Re: Wheels from other cars

Why would you want to do that? You can pick up oem Honda wheels that fit our cars fairly cheap. I doubt they will fit.

Re: Wheels from other cars

I have 2 full sets of wheels, with 8 badly worn tires (a winter set and a summer set). The car is rusting badly, and will not survive another winter. I'm trying to save money and buy second-hand tires, but the sizes to fit my existing wheels are not currently available. Tires already mounted on wheels means I don't have to get the exact right size, and I don't have to pay a tire shop to mount & balance the tires.
Why don't you think Kia wheels would fit on a Prelude?

Re: Wheels from other cars

Pretty sure the offset will kill the idea. Lug pattern might be ok (I won't confirm or deny - check the tyre sizes guide) Either way unless you know what they came off then we've got bugger all chance of giving you any useful advice.

Re: Wheels from other cars

Thanks for mentioning the offset - I did a bit of googling with that key term in hand, and discovered you're probably right.
I don't know what Kia the wheels I'm looking at came off of - she bought a new car which these wheels don't fit, and responded to my questions with just "a Kia". The Internet tells me the bolt pattern on most Kia cars is 4x100 (good) but the offset is +100mm or even more (bad). According to the information on this forum (thanks again!), my wheels are offset +45mm, so no dice.
Oh well, back to trawling for sales on the discount tire sellers...

Re: Wheels from other cars

195/60/15 work on our stock wheels (4th gen?)
i'm sure you could find something for a decent price (and yes i read you did not want to pay for balance and things)

Re: Wheels from other cars

So try on the set already. What? Takes 10 minutes to try one tire with the kia rim. It don't fit, buy the tires and get spacers? Are they oem or stamped enkei / roh / or something? People will pay for aftermarket-oem goodies. There are options.

Re: Wheels from other cars

check out this link, it only shows two different kia models that will fit 3rd gens. and make sure that the center bore is either the same size as our ludes (hub-centric) or that its bigger than them (lug-centric)

Re: Wheels from other cars

To address part of your question in your original post, if you are going from Honda rims to anything else, you will need to replace the lug nuts. Honda used ball seat or radius seat lug nuts, and should only be used with Honda rims. If you look at the part of the stock Honda lug nut that seats against the rim you will see that it is rounded. Hence the name "ball seat".
