Icon5 New to Preludes - Where to find full kits?

Just got my hands on a 1989 Prelude SI, looking to get a full body kit (front bumper, back bumper, side skirts) but I've had very little luck finding any.

Also did they ever make aftermarket tail lights? Haven't found any of those.

No aftermarket tail lights were produced for 3rd gens. So you'll have to do something custom if you want to change them.

As far as body kits go, don't.

Yea, seriously, just get an OEM style/carbon fiber lip-kit that costs more than the car. That's the way to go.

Re: New to Preludes - Where to find full kits?

Only reason I ask is because I plan on giving the car a whole new paint job but the front bumper has some cracks in it that I'd need to replace it for anyways, figured if I was going to replace the bumper I might as well get something aftermarket.

I can post some better pics of the car later but this is what it looks like as of now.

Re: New to Preludes - Where to find full kits?

Damn, that lude looks clean. It'd be a shame to mess that up with an aftermarket kit. None of them really looks very good imho. Replace the front bumper cover with a stock unit. You can get them from ebay. Less than $90 shipped for a brand new bumper cover.

Re: New to Preludes - Where to find full kits?

Thanks all for the compliments, I literally just bought the car about two weeks ago.

It had a stock radio and stock steel rims (with the plastic covers on the rims), but other than that it was just as clean as it looks in the picture. Ended up getting it for $1600.

Only thing is that it has 191,000 miles on it, which in my opinion is Way reasonable for the price and the condition of the body.

I'm not really trying to aftermarket the car Too much, I just want it to look good.

So far I've gotten it 14" Konig Incident rims, and an Alpine radio. I plan on grinding out the red paint and repainting it blue, and getting it a carbon fiber hood, but that's about it as far as outside body work. (I know the car looks good red and as it is, just red gets me too much attention from the cops around here and they don't like me.)

Re: New to Preludes - Where to find full kits?

I totally understand what you mean about red attracting attention. I've drawn way more attention with my red one than I ever did with my white one. But I love the red too much to change it. Hell, even my truck is red, lol.

If you are going to change the color, please make sure an do it right. I see too many 3rd gens in the junkyards around here where the previous owner changed the paint color but only sprayed the outside of the car. Door jams, engine bay, and trunk areas were left the old color and it always looks like crap. Good luck with your lude and I hope to see some progress pics as well.

I want to do it right and do the whole thing but the problem is that I'm not really a mechanic and I'm only just starting to learn about doing these kinda things myself.

The guy who did my dad's 88 CRX isn't interested in the project of my Prelude so I'm going to be looking around for the next month or two for someone who Would be interested in the body work. (stripping the old paint and whatnot)

How many people on this website are around Southeast Michigan anyways? hah.

EDIT: I just got ahold of Honda, apparently they still have the entire front bumper in stock, so I'm probably going to go ahead and pick that up. Thinking of leaving the body stock, but still going to give it the new paint job. Personally I'm thinking a nice dark blue.
