replacing the antenna?

Does anyone have pictures on how to replace an antenna? Mines kept getting caught in my spoiler whenever i closed the trunk and it finally snapped off lol. I'm just wondering how can i take one off at a pick n pull so i can know how to put it on to mines.

Re: replacing the antenna?

The chrome ring with 4 notches on the outer part of the antenna unscrews with a special tool... or an adjustable plier. Then there is one nut holding the motor on behind the trunk paneling.

Re: replacing the antenna?

^what he said.

You should buy it new off of ebay including a new motor as well.
I can't lie, when I see an old school car with a mechanical antenna it looks soooo cool

your other option is to use the rear defogger glass lines as an antenna. There is a plug that is not being used underneath and behind the center console. That plugs into aftermarket radio antenna outlets. Search for this info if you're curious...

Re: replacing the antenna?

I know im late with this but I just an update with my lude i bought the s2000 car aerial antenna and can tell you that it doesn't just bolt up to the 4g preludes. only then there is a problem because the s2k antenna mounting does not get collar in the way. I haven't gotten around to figuring it out yet.

Re: replacing the antenna?

Old post I know. This the best value I've seen in 013.

http://www.antennamastsrus.com/Honda...01988-1991.htm
Inexpensive antenna. Fits like oem. Has 6 side fender screw so any future r&r doesn't require a special tool.
You buy just the mast or the whole unit from these guys.
Lucky has one and they work just like oem.

Re: replacing the antenna?

My original antenna had a connection that would detect when I opened the trunk lid, and would retract the antenna even if the radio was on. It's a cool feature, and only came on models that had a factory installed spoiler. If it was dealer installed then it didn't have that feature.

But when the motor on it died I shaved the antenna, plugged the hole and painted over it, and just use the one in the rear window grid. It works almost as well, and now it doesn't look like an RC car with a big ass antenna sticking up.

Re: replacing the antenna?

My red one looked like the rc car you spoke of.. bent and all.
One day it broke off so for now it's a nub.
I really dig the back window idea and resurected the thread for that reason as well. Think I'll do a rubberized stubby til the paint job and do what you did at that time.

Love the old threads when the now leaders were regulars grunts like us and sharing what they discovered, or invented.
