Colinater's 4ws project/dd

Well I decided to keep the prelude so I figured I would open a thread to drop all my news to you guys. She's an 89 si 4ws with 149k stuck on the odomiter, so I have now idea how many miles she has. She runs like a champ and handles like none other. I was planning to sell her so I can get my friends 86 si but I just can't let her go to someone I don't know. Snapped a few pics of the whole car showing its ups and downs, I'll post them and any other good pics of the car I have.

photobucket is being stupid slow but I will get them on here eventualy, lol.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

minimal rust on the pasenger side

nothing to bad

freakin busted corner light, how much is that **** gonna cost

it is the camera angle that makes it look like its leaning in this puc but it does lean slightly because of wore out shocks

the drivers side is slightly worce

well... substantualy worce, lol

this is gonna be fun to fix

I want to know who the **** did this so I can kick they're ass

very slight surface rust on the drivers door

this looks bad but will be easy to patch

interior is clean as ****, I'm loving the black interior

back seat is just as nice

really car could use a few more guages

you all new I had to put this on, that stock muffler was quiet and fugly

my buddy did a hell of a job welding it on

we positioned it bout perfect, just try and stomp that off, lol

heres a pic of when I replaced the valve cover gasket

Well there's the first instalment, let me know what you all think.

Very rare Bermuda Yellow Si.

Not bad, good to hear you're keeping it...

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

Actually, it's Barbados Yellow, not Bermuda. And I love it too. But I love all 3rd gen colors, lol.

Looks like you'll have your work cut out for you. The driver side quarter panel is pretty messed up. Quite a bit of rust on the passenger side too, but not nearly as bad. What are your plans to fix that?

It also looks like the engine was neglected a bit. Lack of oil changes will turn the head that brown color. Hopefully you won't have any issues with that.

I agree about the gauges. There should at least be an oil pressure gauge.

Nice job on the muffler. You guys tucked it up in there nicely. How does it sound?

I predict that you'll like the 3rd gen better than the 2nd gen that you are thinking about trading for.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

If the second gens were as sexy as the third gens I probably would have done it. The one my budy has has a jdm a20a in it that was completly rebuilt and bored .10 over, they also rebuilt the head, replaced all the acceserys and sensers, replaced the cv axles, and it has all brand new suspention. The guy he bought it from saved all the recipts and we calculated about 3500 worth of parts in the car. It was a very appealing deal but the car just kinda looks like crap so deap in my head I realy didnt want it.

I plan to deal with the rust one spot at a time, first of all I think I'm gonna take car of the f'ed up fender flares. What I am gonna try and do is cut out the rust and weld on a few after market flares and make them look as stock as posiable. Most of the other parts I'm probably just gonna take care of the convential way by replacing the straight pannels with sheet metal and the other parts with quick steel and fiber glass. I started knocking out some of the pannels yesterday and it looks like the rear bumper is pushed in on the drivers side about 2 inches. I'm gonna take the bumper off and try to fix the mounts so that it fits right.

I'll post some more pics of what I have done later.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

You might not have any luck finding replacement panels for the rear quarters. I'm pretty sure they aren't stocked anywhere anymore. Your best bet for those may be to cut some from a rust free shell in a junkyard somewhere. I know that's what most 3rd genners have been doing.

Sounds like you have a good plan on where to start. Good luck, and I'm looking forward to seeing some progress pics on this one.

Took the spoiler off he other day, I think it looks pretty good. Also swaped out the stock 14" wheels with some 86 civic si 15s. They grip way better but being as they have fusion tires on the front, they make alot of noise when taking corners.

I took the pic where us local racers do the magority of out legit races. Its a long stip of road over a 1/4 mile long where there is never any traffic.

Looks better without the wing IMO. I shaved mine a couple years ago and haven't looked back.

Adjust your antenna though. It looks goofy enough when it points straight up, but pointing out to the left makes it look like an RC car or something, lol. Or better yet, shave the antenna and use the antenna that's in the back window. I did that when I removed the spoiler.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

I'm glad you decided to keep it. I think the third gens are the best looking body style of them all, but i hate the yellow lol, and you got the 4ws which is awsome. people don't understand how awsome 4ws is until you drive it. it takes some getting used too cause it feels funny at first, like alot of body roll or something, but after that you can take hairpin turns at like 80mph. The handling is incredable and the 4ws is hard to find. good find! goodluck with the upgrades, keep the pics coming.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

Well I went to my local track last night, its only a 1/8 mile but its the only track in the area. The best time I managed was 11.07 but it was my first time atempting to race. Being a street racer, it is realy hard to get used to track racing because of how diferent the grip is on the track. Now I have my launchs down pretty well so ima go back next week and see if I can do any better.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

Well I got all most the entire engine striped down, just need to pull the exhaust manifold away from the head and it should lift right out. So as long as the valves are all undamaged, the engine should be reaselmbled and in working condition by tuesday. Gonna port the intake manifold and exhaust manifold while they are off of the motor, and im gonna paint alot of the parts in the engine so it looks cleaner.

I have a comment, or rather a question. Why were you running without the timing belt cover? I'll be very surprised if you didn't bend any valves.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

Well I went to honda yesterday to order some new valves and they show that only 3 are available and they were not even sure if they could get all 3 of them for me.

If I am not able to get the new valves I kinda have a back up but its not a sure thing.

My buddy had a 91 alb lude back in the day, it had a b21a1 in it and he had the head rebuilt with skunk2 valves and valve springs. He sold it last year for way cheaper than he should have to a friend who sold the car once then stole it back and sold it again in alabama. That was last year, but my buddy decided to try and track it down and ended up finding it on craigs list in Florida. He called the number but the guy had already sold it to a junk yard. We had the guy check the junk yard to see if he could find it but they said they had sold it. I guess the guy knows who they sold it to and can buy the car from him super cheap, so he said probbably he can ship me the head for 250 bucks. If he gets the car I am def gonna buy that head.

Re: Colinater's 4ws project/dd

You will lose some power with that head. The b20 with a b21 head will net you lower compression numbers. It would be ideal for a turbo project though. If you are staying n/a you might want to consider getting a b20 head.
