Icon9 PLEASE HELP. CAR DIED IN BROOKLYN NO POWER.. SHORT CIRCUIT

i know im new here . hello to every one.. but please please please i need urgent help.. i stuck in brooklyn ny... ok heres the details
1991 honda prelude si 2.1 auto 4 cyl.

ok i was driving it was raining bad i hit a puddle of water and the water mustve done something because the battery light went on then 15 seconds later bam the car just lost power and went dead.. i mean everything all the lights everything... i let her sit and still nothing when i turn the key for the ignition nothing the battery is not dead because i tried another one and its not the alt. because it wouldve been a slow drain and killed the battery..

ok main fuse number 1 is blown which is the power distribution i went to autozone got the correct 70amp for it and it just keeps blowing as soon as i place it . i disconnected the batteries tried another switch then the second i touch the battery terminals it blows the fusible link again...
so we have a short somewhere correct .....
ok now i traced the power wire back to the starter everything is fine. that little wire above the starter was nasty and dirty but still not a short...

what do i do know im going krazy i work night shifts from 10pm to 6 am and i still havent slept ... ive been in front of my job since 7 am trying to fix this.. please someone tell me anything... pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..

or call me 9174324400. if you live in ny queens or bk call me i will pay you if you are sure you know what it is . i need this done today.....

Re: PLEASE HELP. CAR DIED IN BROOKLYN NO POWER.. SHORT CIRCUIT

it has to be a short somewhere, I'd start by tracing all the major power wires coming into/out of the fuse box. I dont think it would be a ground b/c that wouldn't keep blowing the fuse (i could be wrong though)

Re: PLEASE HELP. CAR DIED IN BROOKLYN NO POWER.. SHORT CIRCUIT

its def. a short.... i called aaa to tow me home... i gotta get some sleep i work tonight...

ok my thing is that water caused this so wouldnt it have just fried something and then it would be an open or dead wire.. but no this is a short cause it keeps blowing these fuses like nothing....
i can eliminate the ignition switch circuit because i dont have to turn the key for the fuse to blow...

Re: PLEASE HELP. CAR DIED IN BROOKLYN NO POWER.. SHORT CIRCUIT

Since you dont have to "power-up" the car to blow the fuse, it has to be a live wire or connection from the battery.

wires replaced with correct guage and im swapping alternators now... be back with updates if fuse blows again the its def a harness issue now...

Re: PLEASE HELP. CAR DIED IN BROOKLYN NO POWER.. SHORT CIRCUIT

ok now im madd.... this is crazy..i had to go eat something to cool off.. ok so everything is fine right ... i changed the alternator and service the battery ( clean terminals ) check all fuses everything seems great.. all lights are back on and the car is back to normal so i turn her on and yesss she fires right up no problem no check engine light....

great right. butttttttttttttttt......

i hear a vacuum leak from one of the small lines going into the intake leading to the cruise control. the line was cut so i turn the car off cut the hose shorter reconnect and go to turn the car back on and bamnnn nothing... all the lights are fine no fuses are blown. i checked all fuses all seems ok... its not a turning over im getting nothing...
i had someone turn the key while i listen over the engine and i hear a air leak of some sort when the person is turning the ignition key...

weird.. no crank no bad starter click . nothing.. its like my original problem but now theres no short no blown fuses just a weird air suction/leak sound when trying to turn the key....

wtf.... this car has never given me problems

Re: PLEASE HELP. CAR DIED IN BROOKLYN NO POWER.. SHORT CIRCUIT

okkk...so i used the power probe and probed the starter directly... but i dont think i have a bad starter.. could it be something with the alarm not allowing me to turn the car on for some reason..??? then again this never happened before

Re: PLEASE HELP. CAR DIED IN BROOKLYN NO POWER.. SHORT CIRCUIT

please ignore the last three post by me....the ground to the starter was knocked loose. being that its a clip on and not screw down type...

to conclude this thread my original issue was a power wire rubbing on chassis and the rain spash fried my alternator... both are repaired now and all is back to normal....
thanks anyone for insight and help. i will continue posting here hopfully with less stress..

Kenny
