tire pressure

I have 17" alloys with 205-45-17 tires. Just wondering what the recommended tire pressure for my tires? pumped them up to 40 psi and they feel a bit hard.

Thanks

Check the wall of your tire... it might say it on there. Also, I think tirerack.com has a guide... I'm pretty sure it's 32 psi for most passenger car tires.

Edit.. here is the file:

http://www.tirerack.com/images/tr_ownersmanual.pdf

Page 10 for normal inflation directions, page 11 for competition recommended inflation.

Your tire inflation information should be on the placard with your vin and curb weight and what not.

The pressure listed on the side of the tire is MAX pressure, not recommended pressure. I just don't understand why people ignore the word MAX. Anyway, rule of thumb for cars is 32 for comfort, 35 for handling

That's not always true. They sometimes have max and recommended pressure on the side of the tire. Plus, I only said that it MIGHT be on the tire, because some tires don't have inflation information at all on there.
