Exhaust question

Im really tired of the rattling that my stock muffler makes.

So my question is, is it worth it to get a cat ( be it high flow or whatever) and a upgraded muffler, then get the piping done to my stock headers.

OR

Should I just keep looking for a full exhaust set up for my 88, as it is very hard to find the correct fitting. Seeing as how it has two 02's and all.

Im really thinking about just doing the custom cat back and calling it a day till I can find a good header worth a damn....

Re: Exhaust question

Depends on what you want to spend. If your only reason for exhaust work is to eliminate the rattling, then just replace the piece that is rattling. Unless you have the money to replace the whole thing. You can find a header on ebay that will get you through until you can find something you like better. Are you sure it's only your muffler rattling, or is your downpipe rattling too?

Re: Exhaust question

I checked today, just a quick glance under my car. It looks like a bracket where the s bend is in my exhaust is, is broken. However, I really just kinda wanna have an exhaust on it. I had a quote on my 4 gen for custom piping cat bat. It was like 150 bucks. Not to shabby. So I'm thinking I may try to do that and look for a good header.

Ive seen a hy-tech or w/e header on ebay. The only thing is that they eliminate the 02's and: one, idk how to make that work. Two, I dont really want to have a check engine light on all the time/or have a rough idle or something.

Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Exhaust question

It's simple and inexpensive to have a muffler shop weld the necessary bungs onto the header so that you can use the o2 sensors. You just need to tell them where you want them located. You'll also need to either eliminate the egr on your car, or have them install a bung for the egr tube as well.

Re: Exhaust question

So as long as I have a header that fits right, I can have the 02's installed?

What about running without them? Would I be able to pass inspection?

Re: Exhaust question

no o2 = instant fail. Look up those Hedman/Chikara headers there some stores who can get it. If you wannabe like me though, You must get the Neuspeed Headers, AKA GOOD LUCK WITH THAT LOL! They just turn the prelude into another car. Do get a skid plate attached to protect it, the best headers are discontinued.

Tell me how this works out if you go through with it. I have a hole in my exhaust and I want to keep my cats and everything, but I want to replace the whole thing. Stock will be too quiet for me since I've gotten used to the sound of it with the hole lmao. It seems that we have no choice, but a custom setup.

Re: Exhaust question

I think your little stalker disappeared dude.
The last think I have left to do on my car is redo the exhaust, I'm thinking I should see if the exhaust from a 91 will go into my 88 I'm excluding the exhaust manifold.

Yes, it will fit fine. I'm running the exhaust from my 91 Si on my 89 2.0Si (from the cat on back). The only issue I have is the exhaust tips stick out a couple inches farther than they did on the 91 (it's not a stock exhaust system). The 90/91 rear bumper is slightly longer than the 88/89 bumper on the bottom.

Re: Exhaust question

Custom? Just get a Catco Converter and A 4th gen exhaust. You have to change the grommets for the muffler hanger, but hey Sheepdog exhaust sounds sexy.

Re: Exhaust question

The one I'm referring to is a universal application. Magnaflow makes high flow cats, you just have to purchase by dimension. I purchased a magnaflow so my car was quiet, while there was no restriction, I can't remember the model I had, but it was good up to 350hp.

I'll look into that, since I'm going to have to do my exhaust to make my car smog next week I might do an upgrade.
