Gas smell in garage after sitting unused for 4 days

We have had a now chronic problem with our 89 Prelude. There is no gas smell while driving, or when first parking it in our garage. Ditto for overnight. But after 4 days of sitting unused in the garage, quite a strong gas smell appears and no obvious source. A mechanic spent a day repeatedly checking, found nothing, and could not produce smell during the time he had it. (Filling the tank to full does not produce any smell once parked.)
Any suggestions on what to do next as the smell and safety concerns far too great to keep it in the garage any longer?
Thanks in advance!

Well, you obviously need to determine if the gas smell is coming from the car or that gas can in the corner of the garage.

Likely causes would be injector o-rings, any rubber fuel lines (including those at the tank), faulty gas cap, or maybe a leaky crush washer if you recently replaced your fuel filter. Could also be the fuel pressure regulator, but less likely.

I f you wiggle the injectors, You'll see that it isn't quite a completely tight fit. Even while running they are a little loose. After a few days of sitting, Check to see if the fuel pressure is bleeding past the injector o-rings. Might need a strong flashlight though. Also see if the pressure is bleeding past those copper gaskets from the fuel filter to the fuel rail.
