My cooling fan!!

I have noticed even after a real short drive my prelude keeps the cooling fan on for 10 min +, could this be bad for the battery and make my battery life go down quicker?

Re: My cooling fan!!

Yeah it's cooling down the radiator and the header after you get out. Mine used to do that, now it doesn't turn on at all. x_x

Re: My cooling fan!!

A electric fans have a program that controls how long they run for and when, the car does not have to be on. It shouldn't be too much for the battery though

Re: My cooling fan!!

If your cooling system is working correctly then don't worry. If you car is due for some maintenance then you should make sure that your water pump is working and your coolant is filled. That is the first thing I would look at, because when my water pump failed my car's fan would stay on 15 minutes after I left the car or even longer.
Something getting in the way of your coolant circulating throughout your engine can cause your fan to stay on for an extended period of time because the engine is running hotter than it should be. Aside from that if you don't have any issues with cooling then it's just fine.

Re: My cooling fan!!

It's normal. My 91 Si has always done this. Don't worry about it unless it runs for longer than 15 minutes or so. If it runs your battery down from running for 15 minutes, then it's probably time to replace it anyway.

Re: My cooling fan!!

proper. and if your fan doesn't do this, it's time to replace the fan switch, and or relay.
