Possibly buy

Hey guys, im new here and i got a quick question. Would a '89 Prelude si be worth $2900 CDN? I found a used prelude on autotrader and that is the listed price. From the pictures the guy has sent me the car looks mint - well you cant really judge that much from pictures but it looks like its in pretty good shape. The car has 186,000KM on the odometer, its certified and e-tested about two months ago, new clutch put in a year ago, new full exhaust system, new battery, new michelin all seasons, comes with an alarm system although the AC doesnt blow cool air (not that big of a problem). Im just wondering if thats a good price for that car, it seems kind of high to me but who knows. Im going to go check it out on thursday and maybe make him an offer of $2400.

Thanks in advance

For roughly $2700 USD, it's kinda pricey for a 17 year old car.

Haggle down...way down.

I paid $3500 for my white 91 4WS, but everything worked perfectly, nothing really wrong with the body or paint, and it was compleatly stock with only 120K on it

Here in southern california, a perfect 3rd gen could go for anywhere from 3-4500 dollars...Then again you don't get any rust.

I paid $2700 canadian for the car. No rust, well a little surface rust under the spoiler. I bought it fully certified and e-tested, new tires, new exhaust(cat back), new brakes, 1 year old clutch and a new timing belt. I dont think i paid too much for it, maybe a little but if i bought something cheaper i would probably end up paying that much for buying new tires, all the body work, etc. So far no problems with the car just a small exhaust leak before the cat on the joint and a bouncy speedo needle, but the needle is no big deal, i dont see myself using crusie control anytime soon.

I paid around $2200 when I bought my 88 S but I really didn't have a clue at the time, I just needed a car that got good gas millage. It had 235*** miles on it to.

You just need to ask yourself what you want, you are the one that will be driving it.

Indeed. I know driving the SS around for 3 years filling it up every 5 days or so at around 50 bones each time = lame as hell. But yea man, im lovin the 28+ mpg with the Ludinator.

My dad didnt really want me to buy the Prelude, he wanted me to get something "less sporty and not as fast" I sure as hell wasnt gonna buy a civic like he suggested. BLAH

just tell your dad that the lude only has about 136 hp, that should take the idea of a "sport car" out the window.

Screw the civic!!!

Well, the funny thing is...He wanted me to get "less sporty and not as fast" but he never said anything when i was driving a rear drive V8 sedan with almost 300 horsepower and 350 lb/ft of torque. That never made sense to me.

that's too funny. Maybe it's because that thing you were driving in was a big boat. I wonder what the horse power to weight ratio is if you compare them both?

Cash68 can only hope to improve
Prelude 2600lbs 135hp
Impala SS 4026lbs 260hp (not 300... they had lots of torque(330ft lbs), but they didn't make 300hp at all).

Power to weight : (higher is better)

Prelude Si: .0519
Impala SS: .0645
