4WS Parts

Just recieved the rest of it yesterday. Everything I need is here. (except the bolts) Made two separate purchases.

Salvage Yard #1 Alma, Arkansas. http://www.russellimports.com/ Had a rear rack with support beam and interconnect shaft. Tie rod ends good but the rubber boots no good. $150. Drove to pick it up myself cause they had the whole car. Wanted to see what else I could pull off the car. Got a couple 4WS badges, downpipe with good O2 sensor and misc. other stuff.

Salvage Yard #2 Trenton, Tennessee. http://www.hwy54salvage.com/ Had front and rear rack. These are in excellent shape. From a 90 Si. Rubber good. Tie rods good. Glad to see they left the hoses on. Everything I need. $100. Got lucky on shipping. The place is 90 min from Memphis and turned out to be part of their regular weekly route moving parts. They just dropped it off where I work FREE of charge. I was impressed. Cool junkyard dudes. :147:

let me know if you need to know how anything goes together, good luck with the install, and to finish it off you need to get the 4WS center cap for the steering wheel!!

Thats one of the odds and ends I got from the junkyard in Alma,AR. 4WS steering wheel center cap. Snatched it right up. Thats the kind of stuff that makes it worth the drive sometimes.

Thanks for the offer for help on the install. Gonna be a few weeks. Want to get everything cleaned up and still have to get those special bolts for the rear rack support beam. Is there anything inside the rear rack gearbox that I need to be concerned about. Oil in there etc. ??

not that i know of, i haven't had any problems with mine and i dont know of anybody with a 3rd gen 4ws that has had problems, it's a pretty bullet proof system, as far as oil in the rear rack im not sure because i've never had to pull mine down but if anything i would think that it would have a grease fitting on it somewhere instead of having oil inside of it

No more 4WS Badges

No more 4WS Badges on that car. I got what was left. The driver side door was gone. I mean the door itself was gone. The pax door still had the 4WS emblem. Also can't believe the steering wheel badge was still there. Do you know if the 4WS part on the steering wheel badge is supposed to be grey or did the finish get rubbed off of that? Gonna order a couple more rectangle badges from Majestic if they still are available. Thinking about putting one of those on my trunk lid around where it says Si. What do you think? I've seen one guy put one on his dash around the center vent, not sure I like that. Might be cool somewhere else in the interior though.

I did a little more research. The service manual says do not remove the rear gearbox cover. I don't believe it is intended to ever be serviced. Can't find anything about servicing it in the factory service manual.

i debadged my 89 and my 91.... only part you can tell is by actually looking at the steering wheel.... i pulled them to clean up the look and to avoid ppl trying to jack them.... kids do stupid crap like that around here ALL the time.... most popular badge is to take off the "1.8T" off the volkswagons when they have hatchbacks with a B18 thats boosted.... clever i think tho

yeah the 4ws part on the steering wheel cap is supposed to be gray, but i've seen one lude with the 4ws badge over the si emblem and that looked stupid, but i think the best looking one is the one that p13 just posted above

This thread is over 5 years old, and this is the 3rd gen section.

You should research the 4th gen section for what you need to convert your 4th gen to 4ws. The 3rd gen 4ws system is 100% mechanical, but the 4th gen 4ws system is a completely different animal. You can't use these 3rd gen parts on your 4th gen. Or I should say that they are not just gonna bolt on like they do for a 3rd gen.
