Icon5 Suspension questions....89 Si 4ws

Ok I have done alittle bit of searching to see if there was any information on this, Earlier this week i re did my brakes while I was doing this I noticed that my springs were very rusted, i would like to put new springs and shocks. Any suggestions for some good kits to look for, and i am not sure what to exactly look for as far as parts go what will I need to do this, the car is already lowered. Also is ths something I could do myself or should i have a shop do it? Sorry if this has already been discussed, I could not find any information on the exact process. Thanks everyone!!

Re: Suspension questions....89 Si 4ws

what shocks are you using> what springs is on there?

it all depends on what wants to come out as usually the lower bolts on the lower control arm does not want to come out, i had to cut all of mine and install all new lower control arms on all 4 sides with 4 new/used strruts to get my h&r springs on.

springs: h&r, neuspeed, eibach.
coilover: form and function, ksports

you can do it if you have the resource, time and knowhow

Im not sure what is on it now, The springs are completely rusted and the shock I will have to wail till i get a chance to snatch one of the tires off, I do know they are white lol. If that helps any, I hope I am able to just remove one set and put on some new ones lol probalty not going to be that easy. I dont really have access to any heavy duty tools.

Re: Suspension questions....89 Si 4ws

I will have to wait until thuursday before I can getunder the car again. The springs that are on it are rusted to hell. I have to go like .02 mph to go over the smallest speed bumps. To get a jack under the car I have to either push up on it with my foot, or have my brother (Big guy) to lift up on it while I place the jack, probly from the springs being so Fked

ok so i fI wanted to re-do the suspension what exactly do I need? Like with coilovers do i need to also buy shocks. I am completely new to this, I just realize that my suspension makes alot of noise (squeaks and creaks lol) any information would be great.

Re: Suspension questions....89 Si 4ws

not much options out for us.

spring and shock combo: h&r springs (race & sport), eibach (1.5?"), neuspeed (race & sport) --- shocks tokico blues thats it.

Full coilovers: k-sports, megan racing, d2, bc, form and function and a european brand zenky racing.

there are some interchangeable and sleeve over springs but is not recommended as they are not made for the car and spring rates are not set for the lude. shocks you can find some for the fron but the rears you cant.

in changing suspension you have to always think of everything that could go wrong. with old rusty/seized suspension its always safe to have access to lower control arms (lca) and lower control arm bolts, these wont give out easily while seized in and the only way you can get them out if they do is break/torch/cut or just simply change the whole thing.

up front you have to take the axle nut off and the axle loose, to do this you have to take the lower ball joint loose and that could be difficult in it self, i use a big hammer and hit the lca to knock the ball joint loose. then you have to make sure the lca bolts up front even turns, you can take the nut off but the bolt itself might be seized. if you cant take the bolt out then you can wither torch/cut the bushing and bolt out and get polu bushings in place.

for you have to take the lca and the lca bolt loose. make sure you turn the head of the bolt as the other side is a welded nut. do this first to make sure they even move. if they do take the lower ball joint loose.

im sure by now you know that you have to be sure you have down time for the lude.

now with the setup. people say that springs ride rougher than coilovers (not sleeveovers) so its up to you. there are pros and cons on both. springs are staitionary and are not adjustable. coilovers are adjustable and ride better but has the chance of the locks slipping. too low is bad and doesnt really have any real world gain. they say that the eibach 1.5 drop is the best one for performance.

ok im stopping my rant now, it might be too late to not confuse you...
