My new to me 84 Lude

Paid $550 for this 84 Prelude. Runs perfect. No leaks...no overheating....faster then my V6....it even passed smog! (which surprised me). Needed new alternator. Other recent electrical issue (which I caused) but is now fixed. Still needs parking brake cables, speedometer cable and sunroof motor replaced (no biggies). Also have to take care of rust around lower back window (see pic). No undercarriage rust whatsoever (California car). Plan on keeping it stock...just want to use to commute to work.

That thing looks clean. Nice pickup.
I wish I could find one that old for that cheap in that condition. Lucky
How many miles are on it?

Great car -- I used to have one similar, and still miss driving it.

Re: My new to me 84 Lude

Thanks, guys for the compliments. I did have to pay $120 to CA DMV to take care of owed fees on the car but its still worth it to me and the previous owner was upfront about it. Right now it has 148,XXX miles on the odometer. Theres a Honda dealership repair sticker by the top timing belt cover stating that the timing belt was replaced at 91,XXX miles. I should at least take the top cover off and look at it. Also my Internet research shows that changing the parking brake cables (or at least one of them) will be more difficult then I thought. Also planning a paint job sometime in the future....as you can see in the pics theres alot of fading on the hood, roof and trunk. Anyway, I know these cars will do well over 200,000 if you take care of it which I plan on doing

Re: My new to me 84 Lude

The paint is pretty typical for Honda metallic colors of that vintage. There was a notice that came out around 1986 or so changing the timing belt change interval to 60,000 miles. 90,000 miles is risky -- I broke one right around that point, and was very lucky I didn't trash the engine. Since you're getting up to about 60k since the last change, I'd recommend doing it. Visual inspection doesn't tell you much -- mine looked great until it broke.

In 1987, Road & Track published a test summary that shows the 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS outperforming every car of that year on the Slalom, including all Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches. It went through the slalom at 65.5 mph (105.4 km/h), an amazing result for the time. For reference, the 1988 Corvette took the same course at 64.9 mph (104.4 km/h).

Yeah it came red from the factory (engine bay, trunk). As for how old the current paint is, I have no idea.
