lip kits?

Ive done my home work an looked for a lip kit to fit my '86 an cant seem to come across anything anywhere? Maybe im just looking in the wrong places??? 1. Did the preludes ever come out with a OEM lip kit for them? 2. I found lip on ebay but they fit on '94 accord an kits that fit '93+94 preludes. So my question is would either fit on my '86??? I have a chilton repair manual i bought an its Honda accord/prelude 1984-1995. So would I be able to do the accord lip?? I feel this is a stupid question.

Re: lip kits?

The Chilton's manual is good for little more than lining the cat's litter box. Find a factory (Helm) manual, or at a minimum, the Haynes manual that covers '79-'89 Preludes (and only Preludes).

Dimensionally, the '84-'87 Accords are pretty close to 2d gen Preludes; I don't know if that translates to the lower bumper molding being close enough in shape. If you have a twin-carb '86, you might try the part from a 2d gen Si -- there's a deeper bumper cover with a lower lip on that. The front end stampings aren't exactly alike between the two cars, but there's a better chance you'll get a closer fit.

Re: lip kits?

haha that is a good point about the cats litter box with the accord an prelude under one cover, it is kind of complicated. But I do have the fuel injected model not the carb. and the bumber does seem deeper at the bottem than the carb model if that is what you are saying? So did preludes have an OEM lip in 86 and 87? Or even as a JDM part??

Re: lip kits?

It's got nothing to do with putting the Accord and Prelude together; it's just that they wrote a crappy shop manual.

Yes, your bumper is deeper than the twin-carb cars. Given that, I don't know of any additional parts other than that, either factory or aftermarket.

Re: lip kits?

you can do what i did, goto your local junkyard, start pulling off front lips (from WHATEVER..i almost went with a old volve 940 lip but got the mazda 626 lip) and (if they have one in the lot) test fit them on the junkyard lude :) worked great for me, and possibly great for you if you ahve the time and access to such a place....

(this was for a 3rd gen, but i'm sure this could be applied to ANY vehicle)

Re: lip kits?

Those are good ideas. Theres actually a pick and pull down the road from me. Its nothing but snow and cold up here right now like -11 sunday night an like 8degrees today but il try to get over to one this week if it warms up a tad an take a look at what might just work! An I was looking at the 1g integras an they do look like it would be a very close fit!

^^ What he said. Just gotta find either a 1g Teg lip or a early 90's (IIRC) Mazda 626 lip and customize them slightly to fit. The Si is easier to find a lip for than the DX's, all because of how Honda put that funky cut in on the DX front bumpers.
