I just bought an 86 SI. for 1700. Plan to use this car as a commuter. I took it to a shop to have timeing belt, water pump, new belts, and an alignment. Shop was unable to to do an alignment do to rack and pinion leaking, and struts worn out. and the right CV axles needs to be replaced. The shop estimate was 1500, that did not include rear struts. I was comparing part prices to Napa.com and wow. The shop was ripping me of on parts. A complete remanufactured rack and pinion from napa is 138. plus a 148 core. The shop was charging 300. So I ordered all the parts from Napa and will be doing the work my self. any advice on R&R for rack & pinion and struts is welcomed. Jesse

Check the resource guide in the the second gen section 2nd gen. Specs. Sheet & Resources Additionally, at least in Utah but I expect everywhere Autozone has a 20% rebate when you buy all for shock absorbers. Was you shop including labor?
