87 Si with rust, body damage, and a strong motor

Hi, my name is Solomon. I am kinda new here, post wise anyway. I have a 87 Si. I got the car from the origional owner with 170K. I drove it with the rust for sbout 4 months before i crashed it (in a parking lot in 1st gear) into some parked cars when i was drunk. It has been sitting in my garage ever since. I dont want to let her go, the motor still runs great and it drives strait too. Is it worth fixing?

Re: 87 Si with rust, body damage, and a strong motor

It really, really, really pains me to say this: no, unless you're just banging out the dents and driving it as-is until it falls apart. You have some serious rot in the bodywork -- deep rust in some very difficult-to-fix spots. Coupled with body damage, you could find another nice 2d gen for what it would cost to make this one look decent...that rust would come back eventually.

Re: 87 Si with rust, body damage, and a strong motor

IMO if its really that important to have a 2nd gen I would say-
-Find a clean 2nd gen (body wise)
-Then swap the parts and sell the "old" one
Or get like a different gen or something, lol

Get a few quotes on the work. That should help you make your mind up.

Re: 87 Si with rust, body damage, and a strong motor

I have no problem replacing the hood, bumper, and the fender. The the inner fenderlooks fine. The head light assembley wont be too hard to replace. The center rad. bracket is bent from the weight of an expedition on it, but that unbolts. I am willing to remove the rear window and patch that rust spot from the inside if it is possible. Then cut out the rust on the edge of the sunroof and replace it with a patch pannel. So lookes llike i am gona have to do junkyard Hunting.

Most likely need a new one, but for doing that to her drunk, you should fix her. Bring her up to Billings, Mt and I might take her off your hands.

I have given it alot of thought and I cant let her go. I am looking forward to fixing her up now. She has spent more time in my garage then on the street. I look at her and see so much potential.

Re: 87 Si with rust, body damage, and a strong motor

Dude you done have anything to worry about. I crashed a 1968 ford falcon i had for three months into the back of a toyota t-100 truck. Was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and was looking at up to 9 years in Prosion. I was in Hi-power cell living with people who were facing murder charges and armed robbery and stuff like that. I had to pay 5 grand for a lawyer. I was in jail for 55 days for my very first D.U.I. now that i am out i have quit drinking and dont plan to ever again.

I know what you mean, to be honest the 2ed gen is the least gen out of the preludes that people see with potential, its always the 4th gen. My prelude has issues to but its more like motor and the line from the manifold to the exhaust and well she's burning oil like a MF and i think you HAVE TO FIX HER very reliable cars, ive NEVER been stranded with her for as long as i've had her and like i told someone else in this forum, its not a project car if there isn't any problems to start with. Enjoy yourself, fall in love

LET PEOPLE SEE THAT THE 2ED GEN IS AWESOME!!!!

Re: 87 Si with rust, body damage, and a strong motor

Thats whats up!! Thanks for the encouragement man. I start and run it every week. I look at it as its running and think this could be a sick car with some time and money. My fuel pump went out the other day. I threw another one in and its running even better! I should have my license in about a month. I just started a second job. I hope to start working on it by the end of the year when i hopfuly have have some money.

Re: 87 Si with rust, body damage, and a strong motor

Sorry man there is no way I am going to do that. I have been driving the car since september. I love it! Every curvy road every freeway run. every smooth lane change. I just replaced the tranny a few weeks ago. I went to the junkyard the other day to get a radiator, some power wndow motors, an inner drver side door handle, and a head rest bracket and found about 4 or 5 2nd preludes with the body pannels i will need. I can get a hood, fender, and a bumper cover for $140.00 I plan on taking sawzall to some of them to make patch pannels as well. There is even ones i cane use to cut out and patch my sun roof. I plan on conveting to fixed head lights like these: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/385421...prelude/page-5 the pic on te top left shows something similar to what i plan on doing. The prelude will live on! I will keep everyone posted. I am in love with my Lude again!!!!!!!

If you would please let me know where to get parts I would greatly appreciate it since I need some and I know that 2nd gen parts are identical.
So if you can help me then that would be great and I can continue to fix up my car for the track this summer.
Thank You; Clayton Evans
