Choke not working?

The choke on my 86 dual carb lude hasent worked for a while and they dont move at all. Is there any way of testing them to see if its getting power etc?

Is it the solenoid looking thing in my air cleaner base with two wires?

Ive read my haynes manual and it tells me nothing and shows no pictures.

Re: Choke not working?

The Choke is a bimetallic strip it is spooled up, when It is cold the strip is shorter pulling the choke closed. A current is put across the strip it heats up and expands slightly this in turn opens the choke plate, allowing normal operation.

You could run a volt meter to the wires and check to make sure it is getting its 12volts, or remove them and apply voltage, check to see if the bimetallic coil expands. Honda show that they currently still have them in stock except they are $140, or just pull some from a salvage yard.

Here is the SM http://downloads.hondatech.info/Auto...02/62SB000.pdf
It is in section 12-15 thru 12-17
Hopes that helps

You also could just run with out them, but it will be vary hard to start if it is cold or damp. I removed the choke a couple of times on my CRX, it took about 2 attempts to get it started once it was primed and the bowl was full.
