Old friend comes back to life!

Just pulled my old '85 Prelude Si out of the barn. Drove it for 17 tears. It's been parked since 2001. WRX temporarily got in the way but this old girl gets a steady 30 mpg. The WRX is long gone but I think this car is worth saving. It's got K&N, Dot 5, Brembos, AVS Intermediates on TSWs, Weisco cam, Jackson Racing header, Bassani exhaust, Eibach 1.5" drop, new Tokikos, new HD swaybars in urethane, Mobil 1 since '87 and much much more. I forgot how much fun it was to drive. Lot's of little gremlins left but stuff keeps coming back every day... today it was the horns! They sure made a great car... last year before the high mounted stop lights. Enjoy.

Re: Old friend comes back to life!

Yes, the paint is original. The RF fender was tagged at one point.... woman turned left directly in front of me, so I had that repainted. I had to fight with the body shop to get them to use original Honda parts AND paint it with an acrylic enamel like it was at the factory. All body shops want to use now is acrylic lacquer because it dries fast and glossy. With an enamel it has to be baked or left for several weeks and then rubbed out but the color is SO deep. I found out that the original color, R51 red I believe, has a lot of black in it.
Thanks for the compliments. The car drives like a go cart and is very fast. (suspension and cam/headers) I'ts still got little gremlins popping up but it's 25 years old this year. I went to get the air con serviced and we discovered that it had thrown a belt and it still works great! Getting a new alternator this week.... still like working on it. It's easily the best car I have ever owned, all things considered and I have owned over 200 cars in the last 46 years. Some new, some used some expensive and some real steals but I have never owned a better value than I have in this car. People stop me in the street all the time and compliment it... I usually get an offer to buy it as well. I'll be leaving it to my Grandson.

Re: Old friend comes back to life!

Yes, original owner... I bought the first Si that came into the dealership in the fall of '85. I painted the side mirrors and grill bits when I had the fender repaired. The body shop didn't do it exactly as I wanted but I was tired of fighting with them to do it my way. I'll do a touch up some day and get it completely red other than the beltline. One thing I did do back in the day was to buy a lot of spares like door trim and sealing gaskets. I have a new drivers door handle that I have to paint and install. The one downside of the '85 Si was the beta factor... they improved a bunch of little things in subsequent 2nd gens. I have made most of the improvements but heck, I still like fiddling with it. Best mod was easily the cam/exhaust. Where it used to wheeze above 4500 rpm, it now feels like it's just waking up at around 3500 rpm. Don't tell anybody but I had it running along at 140 mph one day w/a tailwind after it was lowered. The only limiting factor was aerodynamic drag... the engine was, and still is, very willing at or above the redline. It's a whole different car... lots of grunt.

Re: Old friend comes back to life!

I bought it from Jackson Racing years ago! It is a Wiseco ( http://www.wiseco.com/ ) and I'm guessing that they can still grind that profile. It was a moderate street grind as I recall.
