Tail Lights

Meet the '87 Prelude. I think it's a DX, though the wheels say SE on them.

She's a pretty car in my opinion, but is currently undrivable at night. The tail lights and in-dash lights don't work when I turn on the headlights. I tried lightly sanding all the grounds on the car, but it didn't help any. I also made sure all the wires were connecting. The dash and tail lights sometime turn on after an hour or so of driving.

The same thing happens with the radio, but it's not linked with the dash and tail lights.

Besides that, the thing doesn't always idle, despite having a squeeky clean carburetor.

I've spent around $3,000 on this $300 car and in return, all it gives me is trouble. -_-

The tail lights are the only thing I really need to be fixed. Mechanics around here are friggen clueless with the car.

So, any ideas?

Re: Tail Lights

check the wires that run under the floor carpet to the tail lights, they can often get damaged especially if seat belt or seat etc squashes them if they have been undone at some stage. dont know if that could be it but its really a process of elimination lol

Re: Tail Lights

Despite the issues, looks like a pretty clean Prelude. Can you do me a favor? I don't know the name for it, but there's that round thing on top of the intake just before it gets to the air cleaner, with the little hose connected. Can you tell me if that whole thing is sitting snug and tightly on top of the intake or does it jiggle around?

It deffinately sounds like a wiring issue. Unless the headlight switch has two different circuits for the headlights and tail lights. But I still think it is a wiring issue.

Re: Tail Lights

i get this to! I find that opening up the huse holder area in the dash and giving them a good hit fixes it right up, Id say bad connection in the fuse area
