DX to SI A REAL PROJECT

Here is a project!

My son has a 87 DX 212,000 miles, absolutely no rust mostly factory paint (White) He came across the car with a blown head gasket ( at least that’s what we thought) Antifreeze in the oil, steam in the exhaust! It was a shame to throw away a nice mint body, besides we had just meticulously restored the interior to SI fashion right down the OEM cassette EQ radio and made it look like brand new.

After removing the head we could see that there was indeed head gasket failure, so we had the surface machined, new gaskets, and back together….. after a bout 20 miles or less of driving, we now have the same symptoms water in the oil. White filler cap and steam in the exhaust! GRRRR

Found an 87 SI RUST BUCKET that is crashed in the tail end, lower miles, runs good all parts intact.

New Project

Transplant the FI powertrain in the DX CRAZY huh?
We have a shop with two lifts, side by side. Plans are to get the nice DX all cleaned up, stripped down, remove engine, radiator, engine wire harness, fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel pump, exhaust, then start the transplant.

Question,

What are we missing here? I believe that the body harnesses are pretty much the same, I know the radiators are different, motor mounts look the same, axles are same, exhaust is completely different except for the tail pipe.

Do you think we will have to change body wire harness as well?

Any other suggestions would be great!
